The title says it all, but for the sake of the body, what kind of heat transfer does J.B. Weld achieve? obviously it can't possibly compare to AS Adhesive, but can anyone give me a general idea as to how well J.B. Weld transfers heat?

cant really give you any hard facts but ive read quite a few articles that have had people use it and got the cooling results they were looking for, i have used it for my HSF on my GF2 and i'm happy with it allthough 4 drops of super glue in the corners of your HSF with thermal compound in the center works very well and if you have to you can remove the HSF. The fact that JBweld is permanent is really its only downfall.

i used jb weld for the ramsinks on my g2mx and was able to get a few more mhz out of it than without ramsinks at all so i assume it must do an ok job at least but probably not as good as as2epoxy
JB Weld uses steel, Arctic Silver Epoxy uses silver. Mild steel transfers heat at 41.84 W/mK and Silver at 426.77 W/mK. Considering only the material used, Arctic Silver Epoxy should have ten times the thermal conductivity of JB Weld. Then you need to factor in that Arctic Silver Epoxy was engineered to transfer heat and glue things together. JB Weld was designed to provide a durable bond. Not much of a contest here.

Hey Colin, I got to checking, and Permetex brand ColdWeld, a product similar to JBweld, uses aluminum as a filler, so it might do OK but not great :)

I think I'll EMail them and find out what kinf of W/mK heat transfer it's got. Thanks for the lead!

JB Weld can be removed when not used in excessive amounts. I was able to pull a heatsink off of my northbridge chip that I'd attached with JB Weld. All I had to do was twist it a bit.
Aluminum's value is 225.94 W/mK, which is almost half of silvers. Again, factor in if the epoxy is engineered to conduct heat or simply bond materials together. With a name like "ColdWeld" it does not seem like the focus is on conducting heat. Arctic Silver's epoxy is still the safe bet. Why compromise for a few dollars?
BTW, If JB Weld broke loose that easy, the surfaces were not prepped prior to application. That stuff has a heck of a bond strength,
