View Full Version : Where to put a subwoofer?
I'm going to purchase a Dell Deminsion 8900. This is going to be for gaming, so i would like a good sound system. I am going to purchase this with 2 speackers and a subwoofer. I've never had a subwoofer in my life, i'm only 15, so i don't know where to put it. What would be the best place to put this? On the floor, up high? Close to PC, far away? I don't know! Remember, this PC will be for gaming!

Under your desk on the floor? Thats where I put mine. I'm sure subs are meant to go on the floor.

Yes and if you put them near a corner you should get some nice room gain.

haha. subs rock. and for most cases corner placement rocks. But make sure that corner is pretty close to you, and make sure it isn't near a door or window. They just aren't as dense ;) plus windows just love to rattle.

Well, it depends. If you want more boomy loud bass, put it in the corner. Personally I perfer to have it in the middle of a wall if possible.
How under my desk on the corner?

I had mine in a corner underneath a desk once. Got mad amounts of room gain, but was almost 'one-note' like. Very boomy. Have it in the center of a wall now and it sounds much better.
Just move it around until you get what sounds best, as every room is different.

I have my big sub on the floor and the smaller 6" sub no my desk.
The one on the floor makes everything shake!

That is the best advice so far ;) better yet. sit where you like to, and have someone move it for you!
Thanks everyone for the advice! Can't wait until my Dell comes tomorrow!!!

I can't remember who it was that was telling me about their old sound system but they said they suspended the sub from the ceiling and they got some really nice clear loud sound. I was thinking of doing this, but being in the basement below the living/dinning room, I don't think anyone would like it to much.
For now, I've got it in the middle of my computer wall between my school desk and computer desk (which are in opposite corners), and my Z-640s sound magnificent. My Z-360s are on my LAN PC behind me and that sub is cornered, and sounds good at a decent volume. My dad's sub sound horrible anywhere you put it, but I'll leave that one alone for now :)

I best placement is in a corner of a room with the open hole of the sub (area where you feel wind, when the sub hits, come out of) about 6 inches or so away from the wall, facing the wall. From there you can eithor move the hole further or closer to the wall depending on how loud you have it. Most people do not understand the idea of a sub, you have all the younger kids want bass that blows you ears out and could blow up every window in their house. The fact is bass is not mean't to be heard, rather to be felt (and heard to a extent of course). With the hole facing the wall you will have the bass notes go straight into the walls and eventually to your butt. So you will FEEL your butt as well as the who room shaking...THAT is what bass is mean't for...
