Hi,

i just orderd a Swiftech MC462-A, and after reading these forums for a few months, decided i want to lap it, i havent lapped before but have read a few guides. If any one has a guide they consider to be the best for lapping a socket A heat sink, please tell me :)

My main question is; how much lapping does the swiftech hsf require? i was thinking of 200- 1200 grits. Is it smooth enough to go straight to 600 qrit say, or will i need to start right from 200 grit.

Also how long should you spend rubbing with each level of grit

Many thanks for your replies in advance :)

I've never seen a Swiftech product (370, 462) that required lapping. I really can't imagine that the base would be so bad as to require a lapping. For grit, I'd actually end up higher. Around 2000 or 2500...

I REALLY can't imagine that your 462 needs lapping.

I believe that on the site it specifically says not to lap it. I would suggest following that advice.
