For some reason, lately whenever i try to play games that sign on to remote servers, my internet just stops, completely, then after a minute it connects to the server and everything goes back to normal. Google dosnt work at all during this downtime when connecting to servers, no program does, but it does for some reason still allow me to ping the servers. This is also happening to my mom's computer. But it's still odd, like if i start up UT2k4, connect to a server, wait the minute, play and try to switch servers, it switches, with no downtime, but if i exit the game then enter it again, it still has that wait. Just wondering if it's my computer, my router or my ISP. I have a Linksys BEFSR41 V3 router and a (im thinking) the newest version of the Motorola surfboard Modem. I really want to see what is wrong with my internet.

It sounds more like the ISP, possibly the router but I doubt it, does this occur in every remote server game, like UT2004 or just on that game alone? Also, does this happen if you try to connect to a remote computer like with webcamming or file transfers?

sounds like a dead router to me.

those befsr41's are notorious for dying after a year or so.

I agree with this man.

Easiest thing to do, would be to not go through the router (turn on XP firewall first!), and go straight from your modem to your computer, to see if the problem persists.

Doesn't make sense that it only does it on certain things though, unless at a breaking point the router dies and then clears up...

it happens with anything, cept for accessing web sites and aim, but if i try getting on a server with Day of Defeat or ut2k4, it screws up and i cant use anything... iono, its not that bad of a problem, just want to know why it's doing that.

And we gave you some suggestions to try, so that we can attempt to narrow down the problem.

it happens when you have too many conccurent connections with early versions of the befsr41.

aim and internet explorer dont use many connections at the same time, but playing an online game does.

It's possible that the router died, though I have to admit, I have been experiencing bad game lag as well when I would connect onto Lineage 2, so has all of them. I am not sure if it is the server or something else, I would check my upload speed at pc pitstop and sometimes it would be half of what I am paying for

Well, the router just died. Now it can't get a Internet IP and will not route the ineternet to the computers. Although we can still send files over the network, the interent dosn't get routed. I know it's the router because i can hook the modem directly into my computer and it works. Any ideas on a good brand/version router i can buy? I like linksys, but im i won't buy another one if this is going to happen again.
