View Full Version : Can an ocing tool cause artifact?
I have been using atitool to oc my card and using the find artifact feature, and according to it my max oc was 435/395 core/mem, but this afternoon I installed radlinker and I'm up to 450 on the core, I have told many people that atitool picks up on artifact I can't see but if that was true in my case I would be seeing a lot of artifact by now. Can some explain this to me?
ATi will notice if even 1 pixel is slightly different from how it should have been rendered. Therefore, if even a single pixel shows an artifact, then ATi Tool will lower your clock speed.
What are you using to test your radlinker OC? I use 3DMark03 for mine, just run a couple tests and watch carefully for artifacts.
Also, ATi Tool just seems to not like some cards. It's rare, but it happens.

I'm also running 3dmark, I've been running since 4:30 and testing my oc and it seems that it does oc up until 460 but I lowered to 455 to be sure, I noticed that ati tool picks up on one pixel but even if ti was that I should have a whole lot more pixels not showing up right and I would notice it.

Try doom 3 if your card is unstable it will tell you real quick, D3 heats up cards likea mad mother
I don't have doom, not my kind of game, but I've been playing NFSU3 and BF1942 without any visible artifact and I also ran 3dmark03 and 01se for a couple of hours.
I just slapped a nice size heatsink on my videocard and ATi tool tells me it see's artifacts at 435 for the core, although any higher, around 440 i can see a crapload of artifacts..
I was stuck at the same 435 with atitool but now I'm up to 455mhz and I can't see any artifact, by the way I have a thermaltake blower glued on top of the fan blowing 1/2 speed.

Dont always trust ATI tool, I have had an o/c be very stable in ATI tool but once i ran 3d mark it would artifact. When you find the max speeds test the stability yourself
