View Full Version : My first overclock. Did I do a good job?

I was able to overclock my 1.4 to 1650 at 11x150 at 1.85 vCore cas2 and auto memory timings.

My temps are reported by MBprobe of being 52C idle and 57C load. I have burned this in for 24 hours running perfectly stable. I have a huge hunch that my temps are not being reported accurately so I am going to radio shack tonight to get a real digital thermo thing to actually check the temp of the core. I have a feelings its about 10 degreees off though.

What is the highest anyone has been able to OC a 1.4 with air cooling?

Anyone get higher than 11x150??? My system runs unbeleiveably stable at this right now and im tempted to go for more!

My buddie just bought the same ABIT KG7 RAID last night and 2 sticks of 2100 256MB DDR..and ofcourse the 1.4 tbird and a generic h/s for it...

His heat was at 59C +++ in the bios with that 1.4 being at 1.4 hehehe...

he for some reason couldnt get his hardware doc thing runing so we couldnt see what the temp was in windows 2K... but ya know it was atlest 10 degrees more..

So his chip is cooking itself at around 127 F.... I told him to buy a new power supply and a new H/S and mod the crap out of his unmodded case.. his system is upstairs in an older house so its like an oven up there... or should i say a sauna! I spent 6-7 hours at his house yesterday trying to get that new setup installed and install windows 2 K Pro and raid ofcourse....hehehe NOT!

P.S. Oh yeah i got the same chip as you and 2 am running at 1650 stable right now.. What yours chips numbers... what week? and ou really running at 1.85 or is that what you set it at in the bios and its really more in Windows like my IWILL???

Wega!

Nice OC! Your temp is on the high side though. I'm sure you could get it higher if you got your temp's a little down. :)

Clock on!

Nice week!

Now we both just gota go water cooling and let the overclock really begin! hehehe

I'm guessin here but with some nice water cooling and a voltage mod i bet we could both hit somewhere around 1800...

Well my motherboad doesn't need a voltage mod. I beleive it goes up to 2.0 vCore.

And I refuse to use watercooling.

My goal is to hit 1.7 with air cooling by this weekend. But Im going to b uy a thermometer from radioshack tonight to double check temps.

bahhh, I have the same core stepping and week and everything else but this crap just wont' budge, been burning it for quite a while and it won't even go @ 1600 stable, my luck:mad: :( :(

Contrary to popular belief, "burning in" a CPU does not increase its overclockability. This is a myth.

train22... Yo can ya up the voltage? or is that the highest you can select? Seems hot but that could be the bios saying higher temps then it is. I know that SK6 H/S is better then mine... so ya know it cant be cooling.. Powersupply maybe... Whats your 5v rail say when your under max load?

Have you tried reversing the direction of air flow on the H/S? is it blowing now? Try it will the fan sucking... My chip likes Sucking better...hehehe.

Also it could be that ATI card.... What FSB are you running? I bt that card dont like high numbers..

I beg to differ... I have been buring since my old P3 500 and i always notice a difference... Its hard not to when once you cant run at so and so speed then after some burning in with Prime95, BAMB! higher speeds... sometimes at lower voltage if you burned in at a high voltage..

i dont really believe in the burning in procedure - maybe it helps maybe not. But i do know that my old car drives better if u start it and let it warm up before you push it, and try to drive. Dunno why just gets the juices flowing, maybe tis the same for cpu's

I seen a guy maybe here or at hardocp get his 1.4 to 1.866 with a voltage mod to like 2.1...............he also had outrageous aircooling...18 80mm case fans...dual 575W psu's....freakin nutz.

WOW!

heheh holy shiat!

Good luck with the dual P/S. i did that with 2 300 ATX WATT'rs and it basicly killed eachother after some time.

Wish i knew where to find a how-to on ATX P/S...

We also had a guy here that CLAIMED that speed but it was unproven. I would not base your system on this statement. I do not beleive that a 1.4 will go to 1.8+ with the current technology of air cooling. If I am wrong please prove it with hard evidence. Just get the best quality stuff you or your parents can afford and shoot for the most it will allow you to go. Remember a good O/C in not one that heats your house at the same time. Good Luck.

I wish I was still young enough to do that lol.

Thanks for the link.....good artical but its not telling you how to combind the 2 for an increase of Wattage... just how to power both on at once.. The way hes got it hell have to hook 1 P/S to the motherboard and the other 2 other devices. Just like i got it now with my 350 WATT ATX and the 200 WATT AT for drives..

But thanks anyway man.. ;)

Hello there comparing your resolts to mine (i'm not too sure of what im doing that's the bad part) I have an Abit Kg7-raid, Athlon 1.4 266fbs and 512mb Samsum 2100 DDRam, i'm wont get passed 1.445 i cant increase the voltage to 1.85 cause it gets way too hot, dont know if i have to o/c the DDR voltage as well, i'm using a Cooler Master CB5-5G12.

I'm not sure at what speed should i have my Multiplyers / FBS, if you can give me any advice i would really appreciated it ;)

Very nice job you did htere for been your first o/c :)

Yo man whats the temp of that cpu when your in windows?

Are you sure that heatsink is making good contact to the cpu die?

Ya might wana take the heatsink off and check the heatsink compound for a make from the cpu die.. That way to make sure that its touching.. If your using a spacer for the cpu you forsure better take a 2nd look.. That spacer can be higher then the cpu die and the heatsink might not be touching the cpu....hench overheating and a fried chip..

Do you have good ari flow in the case like a fan blowing in front and a fan in the rear besides your power supply fan sucking the hot air out?

Remember this... If its hot in the room your computer is in, that heatsink will be above that temp and can not cool below room temp.. Some for your case temp.. If your case air is hot then your heatsink will be that much more hotter..
