Well im done playing with FSB on my epox board . Now I want to play with the multiplier some. I heard you have to unlock the 1.4ghz266 chips by connecting some traces? anyone got a schematic of this or some type of pic to show me what traces to connect?
thanks ron

you only have to unlock if it is locked to begin with. if i am misteken sorry but i believe that ALL of the 1.4 are unlocked as it is. It should just change anyways, but if you want there are 4 gold lines on the chip labeled L1. if they are locked they will look like this l l l l if they are locked they will just be gold dots that look like this : : : :. If they are unlocked you can use a nmber 2 pencil and trtace over them firmly and make sure to not crtoss any bridges, use a magnifying glass to check work

The L1 bridges control the multiplier. In the couple of hundred 1.4's that I have seen - I have not seen one that was locked. The easiest test is to change the multiplier in the bios. The 1.4/266 chip has a multiplier of 10.5, so if you change to 11 and your fsb is at 133,then when you reboot the splash screen reports 11x133 then you are all set.

You just have to make sure that the L1's are conected for the multiplyer to be unlocked, I beleive with the others you can change the default voltage and multiplyer and fsb etc.. but theres no need if you have a good board.

First of all, I agree with the above post about the 1.4G CPU's being unlocked.

Beyond that I would suggest to you to do a bit of research. If you had read the "Beginers Giude", you would have seen the article on unlocking the L1 bridges. This article has a very good explanation as well as good photos of the "unlocking" process as well as a wealth of other articles that will help you on your overclocking adventure.

If you take the time to do the research on the basic overclocking procedures, you could be enjoying the fruits of you labors rather than waiting for answers to your questions in the overclocking forums.

Remember that your computer is a very sophisticated piece of electronic equipment that you are going to be running way beyond what the engineers had designed them for. It would be in your best interest to gather as much information on the subject as possible thereby making your endeavor as successful as possible.

Remember, "Overclockers.com home page>Beginners Guide> Unlocking the L1 bridges"

Good Luck!

As a reference, I have a 1.33 AYHJA / Y, which is the same code seen on some 1.4's. It came to me unlocked, which is an awesome thing. So..chances are, you may have an already unlocked CPU.

This (http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/athlon1100/page2.asp) page has good detailed pics of factory unlocked (really just never locked in the first place) L1 Bridges.

I did read the basic fundementals to overclocking. I just like to be 100 percent sure on how to do things. I've read about 15 different articles about unlocking your processor. I'm only 21 and I need my pc for school , so I can't really afford to make any mistakes.

i have an epox mobo and athlon 1.4...my mobo says the voltage setting has no reall effect as i have to use jumpper pins to change the voltage is this the same with you ???ive tried without using jumper and it tells me "overclock has failed"..then it resests everything to aoo mhz bus so im running at 1040..i hope this helps
