heh, i thought it was an x800 or something...
your results may vary, it may not be flashable...but it's a sapphire so you have a better chance i guess...

Even though I am in the Ati forum, I would suggest a 6800nu over that card. At stock they can be over 25% faster, and if you unlock the extra 4 pipes you have a 6800gt on your hands.

<blink>...<blink> Umm yea.. I'd get a 6800 over that card any day of the week.
Same here, do yourself a favour and get the 6800nu now. It's quite a bit faster generally plus if you can unlock the pipes and the extra vertex shader/s then you're in business.
Seems that the 9800pro is going out of production already too. Replaced by the x800se I guess. My bro is looking for a video card and I was looking at the 9800pro (he's on a budget) but then I just told him to go straight to the 6800nu. Way better value for money.
Good luck.

i would be scared of "ATLANTIS" in the title that was shappire's cards with the 128bit memory instead of 256bit

Well this is a gift for Christmans from my dad so im hoping i will get the best of luck, i am still very excited to be getting a faster card period. over my 9600xt and i am an ATI fan so..... Not going to waste 400-700 dollars on an x800 when im going to be goin to pci-e next year. Rather save my money and buy one next year, But hey cant argue with a free graphics card and the reviews say its good so ill give it a try.

On the contrary, its another 20 bucks less to get the 6800NU.
BTW, is the $200 6800NU from Compusa still there?

This is the same card at a price of $229.
that is a rip off! 9800 pro wiill not impress you if your only moving up from a 9600xt. For that price you can get the x800 np and that WILl impress you! just wait a few weeks til its out, or get a 6800nu.
sapphire often uses R360 core, not always though, if i looked at the image right, its an XT PCB so if it has the R360 core you can most likely flash it to an XT.
About people recomending other cards, you can go NVidia now, or you can get this 9800pro, if your an ATi fan, go with an ATi card, personally im not getting into NVidia cards for a while..
I'd go for that card even if it were only because i always wanted such a 9800pro lol :p (too bad its so expensive) though prices should come down soon (cant remember where i read that.. somewhere around here..)
@Lithker: it says 256-bit in the name :) and Atlantis is just about the name of every sapphire card :)
ya, thats a sweet card. personally i would rather get a few less FPS and have the better image quality. ;)

I think the 6800 has better IQ as well. The 256mb 9800 has pretty much nothing on the 128mb ones, except +$100 on the price. Ask him to spend about $180 on a 128mb 9800pro and you will be just as happy.

And I'm moving from a 9200 to a 9600xt finnally, and I'm VERY excited. =)

I cant chose the card im getting, that is the one im getting and it would take a nuclear bomb to stop the ups truck from delivering it to my house, being that im not the one buying it and it is my dad who is, I think a 9800pro is a huge upgrade from my 9600xt because my dad has a built by Ati one and his friend has the sapphire one which he has flashed to an xt, so i am around 9800pros day and night and now its finally my turn to get one, yippi!!!!!

One question, Why does your card have 16 ram and the sapphire has 8 ram, is it because the sapphire is ddr2 and the other is just ddr???
Oh and this is the card im getting, same thing but it has ddr2.

The 9800pro is still a good card, but I would agree with the other people that getting a 6800nu is a better choice.

Back to my point that i cant get a 6800nu, I CANNOT GET ONE, please listen to what i am saying, i am not buying the card.

Thankyou for understanding, and back to my question about the ram, is 16ddr ram the same as 8ddr2 ram?

That is revision 2 9800 pro 256 all brands will flash to 9800XT, and as Kenshiro said the card can be bought at microcenter.com for $229
This card has DDR 1 and R360 core vs revision 1 that had DDR2 and R350 core which did not flash to XT

Oh yea i will put a artic silencer1 and some OCZ copper heatsinks right when i get it, But can be flashed? Right? If so then do you know where i could get the bios for it?

my card is built by ati, but it looks just the same.. same color, same cooler and the very same layout.
check out wether its a R350 or R360 core when you change the heatsink and checl what memory chips you'Ve got. If you don't know, just write down here, what's written on those chips. Then you can go and search a bios, which was in my case 9800XT 256MB 2.5ns Hynix.. if you should need this bios, I can send it to you.. but there's a whole site with many ati bioses.. someone has to post the link, because I forgot.. maybe in a 9800pro flash sticky or walkthrough.
If its a R360 it should be able to flash, maybe you could try the XT clocks before you flash. This card has the XT layout and with the right chip it IS a 9800XT after the flash.. with temperature reading and overdrive.
I stepped up from a 9600XT just like you...
The wasted money on the 9600XT still makes me feel sad.. the difference is really big.. enjoy :)
btw. in my sig are some performace numbers for this card.. the new catalyst gave me between 15-25% more performance, so I'm still glad to have this card
edit: somthing which could be of interest: it overclocks poorly.. mem won't go above 380 and core won't do more than 435.. I guess its just not enough voltage, but I don't know.

Well i know its already been said but i have to say it also, for that Mulla i would deff have gotten a 6800NU, i know you said you couldnt get one tho.
Its a big upgrade over what you have tho, my 9700pro Crushes the 9600's XT or not. Heck the 9700pro's are only like 5fps slower then the stock 9800pro's. Anyway once you get the card you will see the diff over youre old one. :attn:
It's got to be said. Your an idiot for buying that card to be honest.
A 6800 will kick it's ass.
The 256mb is a waste on a 9800Pro, there not fast enough to take advantage of it.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing, but he is obviously very against getting a 6800 so we might as well leave him be because we're likely so scare him off for good:eek:

If you were to read his post, you'd see that he said that his dad already BOUGHT the cards FOR HIM, he didn't actually chose the card, and even if he did, its already on its way to him, so leave it be.
Jacobman, congrats on the nice free vid card, that's always a good present to get.
