A buddy of mine has a 9800 Pro, and he's had it for a year and a half. Just two Sundays ago (11-27-04) it started doing wierd things on him. He was playing America's Army and it closed the game and went to a black screen and had the RGB colors on it like "No Signal" and "If you can see these colors your monitor is working correctly" or something. It also, right after that, the computer plays very high ptched noises from the computer speakers (not the internal speaker) It keeps doing that on him. He also mentioned that when he plays a game he gets little white flickering dots in between where textures join on his screen as he's playing.

I'm guessing that it's a graphics card problem.

I thought of doing a benchmark on it and checking if it displayed any artifacts, but I forgot the name of the program that did it.

Any help would be appreciative!

Is his system overclocked? It could be his video card but then it could be something else as well, first try a different card if possible pci or whatever(ati if possible) you can get and see if the problem percists it's not the card. What makes me think it's not the video card is that first artifacts usually don't stay where texture come together, it would be all over the place. Second is the high pitched noise, it's unlikely that a video card could cause that. If you have a change to go switching parts to find the problem that would be the best way to solve it. And the program that your looking for is atitool it will definately tell you if those dots are artifacts.

edit: here is a thread I found in the video and sound section:

Well i'm almost 100% sure its the card. He took some images of a few tests he ran. First one is the 3DMark01 error. Second and third are the most craziest damn things I've ever seen. And the fourth is some random error.

Heres the log file that the 3DMark01SE error was talking about.
