I have a northwood 2.6C and i would like to have an idea of how far i can push my cpu but still at very stable level, and i no in ocing there are no guarentees, and that it is different for everyone but...

So how will my cpu oc if its in an abit ai7 and some crucial pc-3200 (not ballistix), and with a Vantec areoflow cpu cooler, and a Forton 350watt?

i wont upgrade my ram to corsair or ne thing, and i most likely not get a new cpu cooler, since in about 1 year from now im goin 2 build myself a completer new "monster machine" lol... so i dont want 2 spend money on stuff i already have.. u no?

thanks :santa2:

Average for a 2.6C on air is about 3.25 GHZ / 250 FSB

You might have to use the 5:4 RAM divider though.

hmm ic, so u think i mite be able to go to 3.25?

even with my cpu cooler? and ram?

and btw even if i put my ram devider to 5:4 will i loose alot of performance by doin that?

is it stock?
if so, then 3.25 is prolly reasonable (w 5:4 ratio)
and if you get a better cooler you could hit 3.4 -3.6

and im using the thermal paste taht came with the cpu cooler..
would i get much better performance if i bought like artic silver 5 or sumthin? but i dont want 2 spend 10$ on some paster :)

hmmm, i think for now, see what you can do with the hardware you have, 3Ghz should be fairly easy with what you have, it all depends on how much o/c you want. See how far you can go now, if your not happy, there are some very cheap ways of getting you higher, if its within the chips capabilities.

About buying a new pc in a years time, i dont know for what reasons, but the best time to do a full upgrade will be in about 4-6 months time.

Good luck with your overclock. :)

I'd try and get a higher watt psu something in the 400's, Forton is a very good choice. My old AI7 was a great board and for the price, its pretty amazing :D, have fun.

but do u think that 350watts is enought 4 wat im goin 2 do?

tomshardware did a review on this psu, and its max power was around 413 watts...

Yeh, it will be fine, but if you can get a 400w one, if not it doesnt really matter.

My 2.6c was an overclocking flop. Barly 400Mhz out of it and voltage has no effect. Rock stable at 3Ghz, kinda at 3.1Ghz but even a few above that it crapps out not matter the voltage or cooling. A new PSU did nothing for me sorry to say.

wat kinda of cooling do u have?

and wat kind of ram?

and i would b fine if i got mine 2 3.0ghz :)
