Last Night I Sat Down In My PC Room and under the influence of a large amount of alcohol overclocked my 1.2GHZ Athlon to 2GHz.

I don't know how I did it but it gets to windows and then locks up because of too much heat it generates around 70C when at this speed although I am very impressed with the speed that it got to I now want to play about improve the cooling even further and then sit back and admire the speed......

i noticed your using a cak 38. whats your idle temp? cause im using one with arctic silver 2 and im using a duron 750, and my idle is 49oC. any tips for me?

my idle temp when I am not overclocked is at around 40C.
My CAK38 is on with as2 and the delta is connected to the molex. Your case cooling is usualy the main problem although the amaount of times I have seated the heatsink incorectly is unbeleivable, check yours is the right way around there should be a lip on the side of the HSF and that should go over where the socket xxx writing is on you mobo cpu connector.

i have cracked some cores before as well luckily the duron isn't too expensive although i did on an athlon 1400 266 ddr.
and that was 200GBP!!!

is it possible to have to MUCH AS2? i was just wondering. i know my cak should be cooling well below 49, cause my little generic antec orb was at 46! so the only thing i can think of is to much AS 2! buut thanks for helping i really appreciate it a lot.

well i suppose it is possible to put ontoo much as2 but as long as it smothed and isn't anywhere else on the chip your as2 should be fine.

Go back to the orb and see if that makes the temp drop.

if you have too much AS2, you could get bubbles btween the cpu & hsf, plus that's just more that the heat has to travel before reaching the hsf. It's not aa great distance, but it can have an affect. Best thickness is as thin as possible while covering the die completely. Also, make sure the HSf is lapped, this will make it super smooth and insures that maximum contact with the die occurs

Sounds like you have a very good CPU!!!! You need to try some active cooling to control those temps and then you will be booting Windows at 2 Ghz.

Actually, he does have active cooling. What he would want is super cooling.

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to overclock that chip that much with a Gigabyte board? I've heard that they don't have crap for overclocking options. Haven't used on myself, though, so I don't know for sure.

gigabyte mobos have a windows utility that can overclock the board and save the setting to the bios it aint reliable and sometimes freezes the whole comp.

the util is called easytune and all you have to do is tell it the speed, and it save the voltage and fsb to the bios.

This can be reset by clearing the bios though!!

And when I get the SK6!!!

AND MAYBE SOME LIQUID NITROGEN COOLING!!!!
