Henry Rollins II

In search of a new mighty video card, I stumbled upon a guy who was auctioning away 8 ATI Fire GL3 cards on ebay. Retail priced at about $2250 at my place, I gave it chance for a while. For a few hours I was the top bidder at some $250, sweet. But when it hit up to $600, I sorta pulled out.
I am willing to pay the price of a GeForce3 card(even though it is hurting my wallet), so why not try and go for something really cool? Agp Pro50, full lenght and 128 Mb DDR sounds cool.
But then I come to think: Would a GL3 make me any happier over a GF3 rather than just over the mere fact just of owning a video card that costs more than a high-performance computer? If I was making broadcast quality special effects it would be one thing - but I donīt.
So, if one just is mere gamer that occasionally render some 2/3D images, is there at all an advantage of using such a video card? Or might it even be the other way around?
Best of regards,
Henry.
