View Full Version : Radeon X800se 256mb
anyone buy one of these?
anyone have any decent info that's not speculation?
I wondering at the overclockability and the possability of modding it into a full x800 Pro or x800XT?
Anyone have successes?
not a lot of good info out there on them! :(

supposedly its alot like a slightly overclocked 9800xt I supposed. no matter, just get the x800np, its 12 pipes for $250 but you need pci-e
PCI-E ain't gonna do it. :( I'm not upgrading my mother board again for a little while.
I'll just have to watch around, might get the regular x800.. hmm..thanks for the note.

Hey I think I saw in one review where the 6600gt was beating the x800se, so I would go with the 6600gt instead. How much is the x800se going for anyways?
My bro is getting a new card soon as well. The 6600gt is going for $250 Cdn lowest but the 6800 can be had for $100 Cdn more plus you get much more performance, disregarding the fact that the extra pipes and vertex shaders may be unlocked hopefully.

Trying to stay away from Nvidia for a while, have had a couple bad goes with their cards.

Were did you see the 6800 for 350? sofar I've not seen a 6800 for less then 400-450CDN. And besides the 6800's at that price only have 128MB ram. I'm kinda hoping for a 256MB card.
The Radeon 9800 pro with 256MB are running for around 400 as well. I'm torn I'd love to get a good x800 but sofar the pricing is a bit high at over 500 sofar.

Hey if you are going mainstream, I wouldn't touch the 9800pro, even if it's 256mb, the memory size doesn't make much of a difference except in price  . A 6600gt will equal the performance of the 9800xt for about the same or a little higher price than for a 9800pro plus these oc to the sky .
Right now I would consider the following:
TigerDirect.ca - 6600gt for $250 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1121824&sourceid=qIqiQbPAYn5YAnSH7tPT&siteid=0041191406&CMP=AFC-AFFIL&sku=P450-8529) - This is an awesome deal if you don't feel like going higher range to the 6800's or the x800pro's (x800 is probably for sure out of the picture).
NCIX.com - Leadtek 6800nu - $405 (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=12376&vpn=299210C&manufacture=Leadtek) - Pricematch this bad boy down to $351.00 using: http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?shop=&num=991 and you're in business man.
Good luck with your choice.
Edit: Oh yeah btw, the 6800 will easily kill the 9800pro in almost everyway unless you overclock the 9800pro hugely. That's my 2 cents.
My bro is looking towards buying a card and I told him exactly what I've told you. The 6600gt above is on special and going for an excellent price but if you want to go higher up, then the 6800 rocks in that you may get lucky and be able to run it with 16 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex shaders.
just a quick question....does a 256MB card make much of a difference over a 128MB card? I'm getting mixed reviews about that. I'm told on one hand that it gives a good performance boost with the AMD 64 but on the other hand I'm told it's basically a waste of money?
Anyone have a bit of proof either way??
THANKS for the info BTW! Your making the case for the 6800nu...bastardo ;)..my head hurts with all the vid card choices lately.

Hey man, no problem.
But one downside to the 6800 series is their vpu doesn't work well so media encoding like hdtv out and stuff is out of the picture for them. For gaming though they seem to be one of the best values for money.
Of course you could always step up to a 6800GT or X800Pro. I've got to say I love my X800Pro.
But yeah, good luck with your decision and let me know what you get.
I don't do any video stuff. If I ever decide to do that I'll get a specialized card.
I'm leaning towards the 6800 since it's pricing is good and the reviews all say it's a better upgrade then the 9800. I'd love to go to the x800 but my pocket book just can't handle the extra 100 atm. :(
If NCIX will price match the 6800nu I think I'll snag it.
Thanks for your help on this one. I'll let you know how it plays when it comes in! ;)

Is the X800NP out yet?
I'm building a new system and this card would fit the bill.

im not sure if the x800np is out, but if it is you will need to have PCI-e to use it
Ya i'm looking for the best $200-$300 pci-e card to get when nforce4 comes out. It looks like the x700xt 256mb, 6600gt 128mb, and x800np are among the top in that price range. Which is best and does 256mb really make a difference over 128mb?

the x800np is the best pci-e card by far, itll crush anything else except a 6800gt or x800pro

uhh the 6600GT is like the same performance of that card. YOu don't need 256MB unless you are running at resolutions above 1024 or 1280. depends on each game. If you need 256MB go for the x800SE but keep in mind in a year or 2 u will be screwed with no support for PS3.
I was thinking of getting a SLI mobo and 6600GT, then later on when I need something more demanding, I'll just run 2x6600GT's. Can you run one card in a SLI mobo?

then ill upgrade again in 2 years to a dx10 ati card with ps3. the thing is I dont need ps3 now and the x800se owns, even without ps3
