hey all,
i will buy 2gig of memory within 2 weeks... any recomendations of speed and brand for this set up?

MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM
CPU AMD 64 |3000+ ATHLON 64 939 (winchester)
enrmax noisetaker 600w psu

i had some XMS35000 on a previous system, liked it but been told that i've been ripped of because mushkin chip are better performer and are cheaper... i will overclock as high as i can but 2gig of memory doesn't come cheap so if anyone know some good 512 sticks of memory that are cheaper than the XMS series but perform better just let me know.

thanks

...So lemme get this straight. You want to use 4X512? I hope you realize that MSI can only use 3 sticks in DC.

hmm. With that much memory (I'm assuiming you're getting four sticks) I don't think you will be getting too high an overclock. Maybe a little more than ram stock. My suggestion is get the cheapest ram of the highest speed (pc4000/4400/etc) with the best timings that you can afford.

edit two 1gb sticks will probably clock less than 4 512's....

..and would be a much better idea.

I highly doubt that you'll even have a need for so much ram. And, for the record, if you are doing heavy photoshoping/encoding/etc. you're better off with an LPA 775 Intel system. Alas, if AMD is your perogative, I highly recommend that you not waste your money on such an excessive amount of memory. Instead, allow me to suggest to know a pair of 512 sticks of some nice TCCD. 1GB of memory should be more than enough to handle even the most demanding of today's applications.

yep i use a lot of ram... a simple answer to that, i don't use windows virtual memory at all... call me spoiled i don't mind :p anyway i was thinking about getting 4 sticks of 512 running dual since the boad is supposed to run 4 sticks paired in dual? (tell me if i'm wrong)

and the MSI website states that you can run 4 stick in dual setting...
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=607

either way what would you recommend? anyone as anylink of good memory?

check this out, http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-940&depa=1

this memory is ECC and Registered.... 2-2-3-6 @ 2.6V
do you think that it's any good?

Don't use ECC and registered. If you're willing to spend that much, go with OCZ Platinum revision 2.

I already did :-/

You CANNOT use 4 sticks in DC, MSI does NOT rate the board for that. If you want 4 stick you WILL be in SC. It sez so right in the friggin manual...MY manual:D

does it say that you can run 3 sticks in dual channel? i thought you could use 4 sticks in dual channel but its not recommended to run 512 sticks.

3 Stix in DC isnt reccomended. 4 Sticks forces the mobo into single-channel

Your cheapest option would be to get 2 1GB sticks.

I'm reading the manual which I have just downloaded and it says that you CAN run DC with 4 sticks, they just all have to be identical.
