Too bad this will proboly not lower the price on the x800pro. I would love it if ATI dropped the price a bit on those cards :D.

So the X850 is an X800Pro that OC'd and has a big heatsink that looks like the dust-buster on a certain FX cards???

The performance of the x850 does not justify it's $100 price premium over the current x800. Basically, it is a waste in many ways:

1. Too expensive; not enough of a proper performance boost

2. ATI can no longer brag about only using single-slot video cards

3. The x850XT consumes more power than ANY video card on the market.

4. The releas of the x850 and subsequent x8xx cards will only add more confusion concerning ATI's already-bloated lineup:

In the end we felt that ATI has improved their lineup somewhat, but they have quite possibly done much more to confuse the end user than they did to improve their gaming performance. Looking at the high end X series lineup after today we have the following: X800SE, X800, X800 Pro, X800 XL, X800 XT, X800 XT PE, X850 Pro, X850 XT and X850 XT PE, regardless of how you cut it, that's one confusing lineup. Hopefully we will see most of those cards phased out in the coming weeks/months, but right now we can understand if you're a bit overwhelmed by this seemingly simple launch.

You mean the 6800?

No, I mean the 5600's...

O and yea... ATI is about as confusing as AMD's lineups of processors and processor forecasts...

Doesnt the X850 use smaller core processes, and is therefore easier/cheaper to make?

Yep.

To me the whole point of it is to increase yields.

Yeah, I thought they had improved production capacity with the 850 so they could bring the price down.
