well i thought my cpu used the 12v line but again i was wrong

it uses the 3.3 line.

well my 3.3line is 15amps......

3.3x15=49.5

that can power NOTHING idk how its even able to power my 2.4 ghz p4

but then i read its the COMBINE 5V AND 3.3 lines that power them

so then its 3.3x15 + 5x28= 189................

then im good.

well WHAT IS IT.

im getting a 3500+ 90nm chip and i heard that they use about 70-80 watts power.......

if the cpu only uses the 3.3v line how the hell can i power it?

but if it uses the 3.3+5.5 lines then im fine?

wtf im so confused.

any help please?

I believe it is the latter however do not take my word for it.

I'll be back with a final answer after I do some research.
EDIT: Okay, I'm basically 100% sure it's the latter, because if Fortron PSUs only output 80ish W for a "Dual Xeon" PSU then yours is logically fine. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-973&depa=0

What type of PSU do you have?

If you upgrading i would get a Fortron 530 watt for 75 off newegg,or a pcpower cooling silencer 470 for $99 (PWNZORS) or the 510 dlx ) high end antec (500+ watt) are good...ocz powersteam. If your that worried. Upgrade

Okay, if you're definetly getting the PSU then I'd buy the stuff and use the current PSU. If it's not good enough, make an additional order. It's not like you get free shipping for huge orders, and this way you know if you'll NEED the PSU or not. Plus, you'll only have to wait 2-3 days more to get the comp. up an running.

15 amps on the 3.3V rail is really. I would be concerned.

As for your question, the ratings work both ways...Your 3.3 can supply a max of 49.5W and your 5V can supply 140W. The max combined power is 189W which is just adding those two numbers (49.5 and 140). In your case, each rail can output the total power regardless of what the other is outputting. Usually thats not the case. For example, the 3.3 might output 90W and the 5 will put out 150W and the combined output will be something like 220W. This means that the total of the 3.3 and 5 output wattage cant exceed 220 and you wont always get that peak 90W from the 3.3 rail.

What brand and model PSU do you have?
