Did you look at your power management? If the hard drive is set to shut down make sure that you change it to never shut down.

Amd 800 @ 1000 5.5-6.5hours
Intel 667 @ 700 7.7-9.5 hours

There and also in the screen saver screen, below the place where you select your screen saver is a power button, look there also.

Try this. (http://twcny.rr.com/technofile/texts/tec051798.html) Let me know if that is your problem.

Frodo Baggins

Thelemac: Sorry I know diddly about mem...your gonna have to try to explain to me... :(

What os are you running? Have you defragged the hard drive? When is the last time you reinstalled the os? Memory setting are found in the bios, are you running cas 2? cas 3? 4 way interleaving settings on?

Well I have a lot of machines obviously, so it's an average of a good mix. On the high side my 1GHz P3's run up to 8 or 9 hours at most. On the low side I see about 2:45 out of my 2 gig P4. I suspect it's averaging out somewhere in the 5 hour range altogether. Of course my stats do not reflect my current average since it's slowly coming down from the days when I had much slower times. All of that has to be averaged down.

Just under five for my Tbird @ 1232 (I think I gotta reboot real quick...)

About 6.3 for my Duron @ 981 (gotta get some more cooling for this one)

About 8.2 for my P///Mobile at 750 (wish I could OC this on a bit...but laptops aren't too friendly when you try that)

Erm...can you further explain the caches?

Basher

cas is the memory timing if you are running pc 133 or pc 100 memory look for a setting in the bios for cas, cas 2 is faster than cas 3.

!-=sky=-!

around 5 and half hours for tbird 1ghz@1.4
around 8 hours for duron 600@800

This is really ****ing me off how ppl with 800 Durons are going faster then me. I have 128 MB RAM PC-133....so, I go to VIOS and change cas to 2?

Frodo Baggins

K, I just checkecked my bios

I ahev a couple things related to mem...

I have 128 MB PC-133 btw

anyways
I see
L1 Cache
L2 Cache

Both are enabled and they have the options of being disabled

I also have Memory size which is set at 16 mb. I can increase to 32 or 64

128 KB L1 Cache, 62 kb L2 Cache (read this in SETISpy)

Maybe you can find out what's wrong, because my 10 hours SETI time is making me so very very mad

FRODO is it possible you have programs running in your task bar. Make sure everything is turned off so that all cpu time is used on seti only. CLC version of course!

Thelemac

Do you have options to change your memory? Not the cache, but your RAM. You'd want options for latency and the like. If you don't, then tell us what chipset your motherboard uses and we can try to help you with WPCREDIT.

Yup...done

Be4 I get to you Thelemac...there's something I noticed...

Other then the unusually long time it takes to crunch...SETI says my L2 cache is 64 kb which is normal for Durons...anyway I can increase this? In the SETI efficiency table, it says that the faster and more efficient your processor, the larger your L2 cache...

Anyhoo

About you Thelemac. I can't find any thigs to change about my memory. I do have something in the Syetm properties called Memory Usage. I can change it from programs to Sys Cache. It's at Programs by default...

I think I have a SiS 730 Chipset

Thelemac

Unfortunately, you can't change the size of your L2 cache.

I was kinda hoping your board was a KT133 as I have a link or two that would be able to guide us on that. I'm gonna have to do a bit of looking to find out information on that one.

Are you looking in Windows to find a place to change your memory settings?

I have a collection of machines like TC does, so my average times range from 2hrs 50mins up to 8hrs, and like TC, my times are still going down. All machines averaged, probably around 5hrs ave for the collection.

What do you mean change my memory settings. The only thing I see for memory, is change the Memory Usage (between progz and cache) or change the virtual mem (which I maxed pout)

Average 9 hrs.. but goes anywhere between 8 hrs and 14 hrs when those nasty low AR W/Us show up...

You should be looking for memory settings in your BIOS...which you get to by hitting del or F2 during POST...should say hit XXX to enter setup at the bottom of the screen.

You Duron time seems a bit high. I was getting about 6.5 with my Duron at 952. I *did* have the memory running at ~150 though. Though that was asynch.

If you go into Spy in the Result tab and click view log then you'll be able to see your actual cpu time. I've found that they are always different than any prediction.

I was pretty sure that Spy automatically logged your info.

So you should be able to check them, even though you didn't realize that you were logging your info. :)

Me? Certainly not the screensaver. Though I did start out with that, and couldn't figure out what people meant by the CLC when I first came here. That was probably about a week. Then I wised up. :)
