aight here's the deal. Its 3 am i'm up partying, the guys computer who's house I'm at is all messed, his roomate was going porn surfing and got the system messed. Reintalling is not an option. I fix 99.9% of problems without that last resort and I've fixed much worse than this. Here's the deal running xp home trying to install the update to ie 6 sp1. Won't install because says not dig signed by ms. wierd cause coming from ms dl site. weird again since local security options are not availible under xp home. any solutions? I have firefox installed virus and spyware are all relatively clean. I'm stumped.

The real problem in all this is that under ie no https sites can be accessed. security options have nothing to do with it.

I would first reinstall IE... I would also run the system file checker - sfc /scannow

There is an mskb on reinstalling IE if you do not know how, it involves setting the ISinstalled variable for IE in the registry to 0 and then just downloading and reinstalling... This would be your best bet IMO.

thanks for the response. I finally got it working. His system is pretty screwed up, it really does just need a reformat but it can limp throuhg till I have some time to devote to it after exams. Thx. :)
