I have been using Windows XP since the release of rc1 and I really like it. A few tweaks and you have really great os.
With the new activation being loosened I don't foresee any problems. If you haven't read Ed's article (http://www.overclockers.com/tips636) on the front page please do.
My only real concern is this if I have the same cpu but overclock it is that considered an equipment change? Say I have a one gig axia and I go to 1.1 and than 1.2 and so on is it going to need to be reactivated or does it not identify the cpu by speed?

That is a GREAT article!! I agree 100% with him. Stop the sniveling and bone up the $99. 'nuff said.

It might...but it wouldn't really matter all that much. Change it all you want, it'll only count as one of your six hardware changes.

The question that I am interested in, which has not yet been answered is 'how long will they hand out activation codes' for example ... if this situation existed NOW when I decided to upgrade my Pentium2 slot 1 400mhz (Gigabite mobo, PC100, Matrox G400, SB 128, Modem) with a AMD Duron 800 (Abit K7A-Raid, PC133, Geforce 256, SB Live, Network card for cable).. I had changed the 'quoted' number of items by Microsoft.. I still consider this an upgrade as I was using that same CD-ROM, Case, Hard Drives, monitor, keyboard and mouse.. however as Microsoft no longer support Win98 could I obtain a activation key for a product they no longer supported ? or would I have to buy the latest OS. Irrespective of my requirements and assuming that I have software that requires real DOS would I have to upgrade that to suit the new OS as well?.. This is a situation that may add significatly to the cost of owning a computer and may be the future for XP users.
I have two network cards in my System, and was wondering how this effects product activation..
the situation sucks imho
