Note: if you are a Norton Utilities 2001 user, be care with this upgrade, the Speed disk defrag utility won't work!
you can use only the OS defrag prg or probably, I haven't still checked, Diskeeper.

I think Intel just renamed the Ultra ATA device drivers :(

Infact, it seems to be an upgraded version of the Intel Ultra ATA storage drivers.

I just installed it for the hell of it on my P4 box. After rebooting win2k said it found new hardware "disk drive" and asked to reboot again. This time around my boot up time was perhaps slightly faster, but nothing major. Drive access seems a little better. Haven't benched anything yet. Don't know if the data prefetch thing for the P4 makes any difference yet. When you launch the application it just brings up the usual IDE drives utility. Basically looks like glorified IDE drivers.

how about an update for bx boards ;)

Hmmm, like to Ultra ata driver you can use ata100 and 66 on the same connector, and my win2k boot is about 10 seconds faster :)

no other differnece noticed.

Thought I'd revive this jsut to state that I found a noticable difference with it on my p4 1700 w/ win 2000 xp pro. When I opened quake 3 all the voices all sounded like mickey mouse style voices. Even the voice at the beginning thats real deep sounded like a 45 rpm album set on 72 ( for those of us that even remember those things). Found that really funny and had to tell all.

From my experiences with this Application Accelerator, treat it as a System Driver.

Having got to the desktop for the first time after swallowing hard and Installing WindoZe on ure HD, the first thing you should do is install the INF update for the Intel Chipset. Then install and Raid/UDMA drivers you require them. Then run the Intel Application accelerator. It will find New hardware on the reboot, these being An enhanced EIDE driver.

I was having probs with My plextor writer at one point, prolly down to the DMA switch being tampered with during the I A A install.

If you remove this I A A at any point one you have a fully operational system, things seem to f**k up for it.

I did this and saw my USB mouse lock SOLID while exe files were being run.

Intel Application Accelerator is the equivalent of the Via IDE_MPD3014 Driver. Most Via users install the 4in1 pack. However, seperate drivers are avilable for folks with 4in1 issues.

The very fact that Intel have released this Optional IDE driver would suggest that some hardware does have issues on their Chipset. We see this for example with UDMA66/100 being fixed under 2K.

I A A is Just another "cover up", to all those as cynical as me!

No measureable difference can be seen for using I A A under 98SE. Have yet to see for myself under XP, but I spect that'll be another barrel of laughs to get set up right anyways.

Damn, I miss my Amiga A3000 & A4000 machines, well, the op system at least (slowwww now, but a real Multitasking Computer)
Bill has had his way for too long and we have a terrible platform/Excuse/Apology or whatever you want to call it, for an Operating System. Its getting worse as time goes by and then we see all the crap hit the fan when folk like creative release Audigy cards that will NOT update drivers or work in something like 75% of top Mobo's. Chuck a Live in there and as long as you disable SB Emulation, you should be okay!

LOL, im waffling, gotta go, must try and get this Ti4600 set up right. I want it.............now where's my Boot disk,.........Format C: /s...............Bill,...........youre a sad F**k!
And if formatting dont set this card right, It`s going back and My GF2 ULTRA re-lives. What a loss on fps, but rather see windows manage its own refresh rate and remember 85Hz as my desktop setting. It's not much to ask is it!

anybody know if it supports ata133? since it adds support for 137+gb drives I was just wonderin'....

might have to swap hard drives, the via drivers that give you ata133 in winXP suck so im not getting the full potential outta this maxtor dx740 drive.

so whats up with it does it work well or not??

Hmmm, doesnt it say if your using XP and have an 815E chipset, you dont need the "driver"?

In my opinion, Yes, I have noticed a difference with most applications that I run on that unit. Careful though, like I said, it also has quake3 running with accelerated sound. So everything sounds funny. Nothing that really bothers me though:D

So the Intel Application Accelerator don't really suit your Hardware Configuration m8, cos ure Quake sound is shafted.

Whos resposible for this?
Intel?
Soundcard?
Spotty faced git that wrote Quake3?

Heh!..........We will never know dude! ;)

Edit:

Did you install I A A after Quake,...or like I said earlier,...treat I A A as driver and get it on your System as a System driver before other Peripherals in your PC?

It CAN make all the difference!

I don't think those drivers are supposed to work on VIA chipsets, so I wouldn't try that if I were u

Yeah, Quake was on there first. And yep, that does make sense, I guess I'll try to uninstall it and reinstall. The I A A is working great with everything else though. And it really did make a noticeable difference with the data based programs.
The IAA is definitely just for Intel chips. Don't use it with Via chips, You'll notice a big difference if you try it on Via chips. But the difference wouldn't be what you're after;)

LOL, I know I have a dell dimension P4 with the i850 chipset and i was wondering if the new IAA drivers supported the ata 133 interface (i dont know if thats even possible through software) BUT I also have a soltek board (with the 266A northbridge and the new via southbridge that supports ata133) and the via drivers dont work with a couple of my apps (Nero and my ATI multimedia center), so I thought if the intel drivers supported ata133 i would put my maxtor (ata133) drive in the dell and put the (dell) ata100 drive in the soltek machine....

sorry if i worded my last post a little ambiguously.

The IAA I installed was on a Dell p4 with the I850 chipset. If you do it, you'll notice a big difference on data style software.
And I think I'll leave quake running that way, it's kinda funny...:D
