I am tired of worrying about this team when there are others on it that are worried about nothing except trying to prove that Intel rocks. It has already been proven time after time that Intel is no good for folding. If someone gives you an Intel rig, fine run it. If you already have one, fine run it, but no serious folder would go out and spend $120.00 for a board to run a celeron on, when for $100.00 you can have one of the new K7S5A boards including a Duron running at 900+. If you have a celeron and someone won't GIVE you a board for it, throw it away and buy AMD if you are a serious folder. Are we serious about folding and beating other teams or trying to prove that Intel rocks? A good question to ask yourself.
Until further notice I am running only about 40 percent of my rigs.

I won't play favorites and I won't try to argue a point for either AMD or Intel. IMHO, AMD is currently the price/performance leader. Many would agree with that ... and many would not. I certainly appreciate that another team took the field because it showed us just how much profit there was in a CPU. BUT what if, by some chance, the current situation gets reversed? Would your feelings toward Intel change?

I have a P4 1.5, 1.2 athlon that are my main folders. I'm building a Dual 1.2 Athlon for folding. I love Intels but I know better to argue that my P4 is a better folder than my 1.2 266 athlon. Intel rock but AMD FOLDS! And when comes to money AMD realy rocks.!!!! I love my Intel and will always have one but I see more Athlon's in my future. Soon my Folding farm will be dominated by AMD's. I fold with what I have I build what I know will fold fastest AMD.

Got 3 AMD processors on the way as soon as flights start running again. Wouldn't even think of using Intel, at least right now.

What's the reason for this outlash? Seems unneccessary to me.... though I do agree with you. If it makes any difference, I don't pay a power bill here at school and will run as many folding rigs as I can, if power bills are the issue here.

I know i have a bunch of intel but that is because that is what i had to work with.
All new machines are AMD. In fact I am building a dual amd machine right now and will be folding with it as soon as the heatsinks arive.
I don't preach intel. I never have even when they were the superior chip.
I wonder what prompted this, all I know is that your folding helps a greater cause than a war of AMD vs Intel.

It's not my feelings towarsd Intel, Its my feelings about what will give me the most folding for the dollar. If Intel came up with a better deal, I would be first in line to get it. Right now Intel does not offer anything that anyone can justify getting value wise. The only reason anyone gets Intel is out of a blind dedication to a company. AMD users are not trying to prove anything, it has already been proven, but you have these people throwing away money on Intel trying to prove that they rock. Why don't they try to prove how much folding they can get done for the amount of money they spend? I mean what does it matter if you get 800 or 900 out of your celeron? It still does not do anywhere as much folding as a 700 Duron. :mad:

Folding for humanity first, for stats second. Intel/AMD doesn't matter any more than bang for the buck and AMD is currently wearing that crown. Don't even care about the stats right now anyway.

I think everyone is a little tense. I think we all need to take a deep breath and just let this go! I think the general consensus of the team is that it does not matter what you fold with. As was mentioned by Would71, let's not lose grasp of the higher purpose of what we are trying to achieve.
The fact that Stanman has so many AMD boxes lets him fold that many more proteins and do lots of good stuff. I think we need to remember that flames are not necessary and that most of us in the United States are pretty strung out right now...(at least I know I am).

Willysnut. You're right. Everyone is tense and it may be easy right now to come off the wrong way or to misinterpret what someone else was saying without even thinking about it. I was just hoping to think about something else if even for a short while.

#1 I'm back on my system...stupid company sent me the wrong DSL modem(USB instead of ethernet).
Just a VERY SMALL injustice in view of today's attacks.
*I hate to believe it may have all happened with hijackers armed with knives* :(

Does it really F*^&ing matter anymore? What disputes are even worth arguing in lite of todays events.?!
Only arguement I see as valid anymore is who's first in line to take retribution!
I'm half way inclined to go back into the marine corps.

Yup finally got my WU that was done last weekend sent in...hope it still gets used even if it doesnt go towards my WU count.
Just got back up running F&H since I got the WU sent in around 9:30 or so. Folding for under 2 hours and got 28 frames done.

My heart hurts right now. I understand that in these dark days that you have a point to prove right now. I do not understand why, but I hope that you recosider. I wish that we can band together as overclockers and represent something good is this hateful world and put our diffrences aside. I fold on any machine that I can get my hands on and try my best. I know that I am beat many times over, but I contribute to something that is good in this world.

Please, lets not forget the higher purpose of our mission here. Sure it's fun to compete, nice to watch your name or the oc.com team rise in the stats, but the real reason for what we're doing is the good that may come of it. And believe it, if one of us helps to find the cure for cancer or alzheimers or whatever, it won't matter a whit whether it was folded on a AMD or Intel chip. My two little K6 boxes can't keep up with the Celerons, but they're contributing about 11 WUs per week. Run what you like, but run it for all it's worth, and keep cranking out those WUs.
And Stanman, we need you, not just for the stats, but for the inspiration you give new guys like me.

Stanman, you did the same for me. You definately inspired me to get every machine I could find folding for the team.
Heh, me too. I was like, I need more machines!
Although I ended up scrapping the idea of running it on my work machines in stealth mode :)
My "farm" consists of an AMD 1.2, 1.0, classic 500 and a (gasp) P3 450 laptop :)
my celeron put out over 600 units for the team. even if your processor is a cyrix, every little bit helps.

I have an 2 intel's, an AMD, and two celey 400s to put online if i find a good deal on a dual motherboard. We have a serious folding team here, but there are people who use some of their machines to do games and work on, and they just like Intel better. I don't know quite what you are protesting here stan. I can understand seeing the "waste" but there are people who don't want amd for some reason or have an unused intel that needs a board or something to run. Every little bit helps. Yes, the AMDs do better, but its not an astronomical difference. My next system will be an AMD and any folding specific rigs I build from the ground up will be AMD. But that won't keep me from getting a $50 board so I can put a dual celey 400@600 machine up and running either.

Yea I found it for something like $120 just need to pre hold the order if they will let me do it. I beg to differ 200mhz FSB in 1 mhz step. i barly have a clue whats going on...but i think we should be more worried about the people that have died in the atack its going to be 10,000+ for sure...they lost like 70+cops and 200+firefighters...i cant immagine how many ppl will die....i am canadian and still i think that bush should strike back very soon....if he doesnt.... we all know that the that USA has a week spot....they took out part of the pentigon and a major landmark...other terrorists might atack...and as far as i nkow if the US gets atacked we are prity much in it with them...as the wtc got hit.....the US dollar fell soo much and canadian fell right along with it...becuase we are so linked tothe US.... we should all stay tuned into the tv and keep updated.

First let me say that I don't care one way or the other about AMD/Intel. I own both and can't tell the differance and don't care.

What do you care what people run folding with, I mean if people want to run on Intel, Cyrix, AMD or whatever, I think its just up to them.
So you have stopped 60% of your rigs because you are tired of intel people? Well thanks a lot dude, intel is all I have, and not all of us have money to buy computers just for folding. You are fighting the war for AMD now, not for the folding cause. Personally I couldn't care less what CPU people use, I like my intel, and you like your AMD, why argue? I will continue to like my intel, no matter what you think - but I don't mind that others run AMD systems. Apparently you are trying to force us to buy AMD, if we want you to come back at full speed??
If this comes down to the level where the only thing that counts is what CPU make you use, you can count me OUT of ANYTHING about the oc folding team. :(
Or do I see it completely wrong? Then let me know. I just don't know why you suddenly want to wave the AMD flag in this manner. Respond here, or PM me if you feel like it. This is NOTHING personal, I just hope to end this thing in a proper way.

Regardless of your opinion I posted this with concern for what was happening. I guess I'm getting a little slow in my old age but I still don't see any humor in this. You have made me feel like I am the brunt of some joke in your comments quoted above. For the first time here in this forum I feel very dismayed by comments directed at me.

Please, don't feel that way. I'm sure that none of the comments here are directed at you personally. What I read into this is that somebody will make a comment like "AMD or Intel, it doesn't matter" and three sentences later say that they agree AMD is better. I see the irony in that ... I hope you do too. Jeez I did the same thing in my first post to this thread. I go read it now and I realize that. It wasn't intentional. All I was trying to do was make an appeal to Stanman but I threw wood on the fire just the same. So ... sit back and look at the big picture this thread is painting. See the humor in it? There's nothing personal. I'm sure of that and, from my point of view, nobody should ever feel, or be made to feel, unwelcome here ... and that includes you. :)

I personally fold on intel and amd, I enjoy both of them up until recently my fastest amd was a k6-2 450, I now fold full time on a duron 900 @ 1004. I currently have five spare intel boards going out to friends or family, sometimes you have to use up a surplus and sometimes it's easier to find a cheap used board than build a whole computer when you have the processor's. I never ever ever in my life thought I would see the day come when someone turns our oc.com teams into a flame war about processor manufacturer's. Did you know amd fabbed chips for intel for a longggggggggggggggg time before starting their own pronounced line of processor's ? Can we please keep this civil ? You like what you like, I like what I like, there is no need to insult a member strictly because they love intel or amd, I am frankly appalled at the behaviour. I never thought I would see you come to this Stanman. I am personally hurt by your action's, if you all would like this thread shut down please let me know.
In light of the actions of the 11th I really don't think we need to be like this, we should be thankful we are even alive to run folding, no matter what type of box it run's on.
I have said my piece I await the decision's of the rest of you. Please let me know.
