View Full Version : So, they're gonna stop making 6800 vanilla's?
I was talking to a couple of my buddies and they said that my vid card would stop being produced soon and eventually overtaken by the 6600gt!
but, i havent found any evidence that this'll actually happen!
if it is indeed coming, would i get a 6600gt if my 6800nu breaks down from my compusa replacement plan?

Once thier are no more 6800NU's, or any card or cpu ect for the matter, usually it will be replaced by something of Equal Or greater value from what i understand. Like people who replace thier cpu's like the say the old Socket A Palaminos, people got Tbred's in return cuss thier werent anymore Paly's.
Iv heard stories where people who RMA'd thier 9700pro's got a 9800pro in return. So its a tought question to answer maybe itll be replaced by the 6600GT, because when both are stock the 6600GT is only a few fps slower thier almost identiticle in speed, but if it were me i would demand a 6800GT or something in that nature cuss i wouldnt want my 6800NU to be replaced by a lower model card.
well, the replacement plan was $200-$350

I find that equal or greater value varies ALOT. It is equal or greater value "price wise" not spec wise at most stores. So say for instance the 6800 was 200 then its phased out and replaces with a 6600 gt for 200. you will get a 6600 gt not a 6800gt because it was the same price.
This can and does happen. A perfect example is the 9800 non pro for 200 and phasing out. when the 9600xt was first released it was sold for 200 despite it was an inferior card.

If a company replaces a warrantied card with a lesser card, that's a problem. When I had a problem with my in mfg warranty Ti4400, I sent it to Gainward, and they sent back a Ti4600. I assume because there were no more 4600's.
If you have a 6800, you should get back a 6800 or better.

Yea thats what i ment equal or great value by price.... lol
I got a 3 year replacement plan for my $300 cell phone from circuit city. Every time a new phone comes out that i like, i simply return the old one and get the newest one that is $300. It works great :).
Notice that there are no 6600 Ultra's. My OPINION is that when the 6800NU is phased totally out they will have a 6600U to fill in for it, either 256M memory or 128M with 256b. Just a guess, I could be way off.

<based off of fuzzy memory, im probly wrong>
Yes and no. They are getting rid of the 6800 but not like you would think. Instead they are simply replacing the core with the PCI-E compatable NV43 instead of the NV41/40. However there is a slight problem. It has native PCI-E and 12 pipe support.
So yes, the AGP version is going to be retired, the PCI-E will not.
well, they cant give me a pci-e card for my agp, can they?
