Does anybody know how to do it? I don't even know how to install coolbits with older versions of the detonator driver!
Please! Explain me like if i had 5 years old! Thanx!

it wont work, with all drivers 12.41 and up coolbits is disactivated, however you can download the hacked version of it form reactor critical(at least they did it to the 12.90s) and it should work by double clicking the coolbits file
You need to get older drivers like ver. 12.40
Then you need to replace two files in the c:\windows\system subdirectory.
Locate and rename or delete these two files:
nvqtwk.dll and nvcpl.dll
(quick tweak and control panel). I suggest renaming them to nvcpl.new and nvqtwk.new since they are the newer versions that don't have coolbits support.
6) Now copy the older versions of these two files from Detonator-3 12.40 to the c:\windows\system subdirectory.
That should do it.
If you have never used coolbits you might have to change the registry settings as follows.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Go to the start menu and select 'run'
-a box will appear. Type in the following word and hit the OK button
regedit
You are now in the Windows Registry editing tool.
Next you need to find this key value by navigating the Registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global
To navigate the registry, you click on the + next to the key that you want to expand. So to get to the correct area of the Registry, do this:
-Click on the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
-Click on the + next to software
-Click on the + next to NVIDIA Corporation
Now you need to make a new key under the global key and you need to name it NVTweak. To do this, simply right-click on the global key (keys look like folders) and a menu will appear. Select 'New' from the menu, and then select "key".
A new key (folder) will appear under the global folder. Name this new key
NVTweak
Now you'll have this new listing in the Registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak
-Now right click on the new NVTweak key and select 'new' from the menu again.
-Now make a DWORD value in the NVTweak key and name it 'Coolbits' (no quote marks)
-Next you need to set the value to 3. To do this, right click on the new 'Coolbits' DWORD that you just made, and click on 'modify' in the menu.
-a box will come up with a value that is set at zero as the default. Change the zero to a three and click OK.
When you reboot, a new hardware options tab will appear in the GeForce advanced menu. To find the new option in nVidia's driver applet go here:
Control panel > display > settings tab > advanced button > GeForce MX tab > additional properties button > hardware options tab.

The CoolBits hack works fine here. It works with all but a few drivers, also excepting the WHQL certified drivers...and works fine with the newest 21.81's without needing to replace nvqtwk.dll and nvcpl.dll. Follow Placid's instructions for adding the CoolBits Dword and value under the NVTweak key, and it should work fine.;)

I dont see why everyone is having problems with applying coolbits with the new drivers... I've updated drivers since 12.41 came out (and I applied coolbits then, by using the above method of replacing the dlls), and I've updated no less then 10 times to newer and newer drivers. I still have the clock speed tab, and yes, the nvqtwk.dll and nvcpl.dll files are 21.81, as shown in this cropped screenshot.
(Yep. I made that BG, the Winamp Skin, and the cursor [which you cant see, but I assure you, it's PIMP!])

I also have had no probs with them, and i have the unhacked version from the old days?
Ok, I feel so frickin inept here. I can't seem to get the frickin CoolBits to work with the new 21.81 detonator. I followed Placid's procedure to the letter but still does not work. I see the it enabled is the display panel. But it never saves, everytime I checked "Allow clock frequency adjustments" and reboot, it always comes back unchecked, thus unallowing me to OC. Here's the screen shot of where it allows comes back as:
I'm so frustrated! I even re-imaged my PC to a fresh Windows install and it still does not work. What the heck Am I doing wrong?
Athlon 1.2 @ 1378 Mhz
Guillemot GF2 MX
Windows98 SE
"I see the it enabled is the display panel"
In the above screwed up grammar, I meant to say:
I see that it's(CoolBits) is enabled in the display panel.

I've been noticing that quite a few other people have been having the same problem. Reading through posts in other forums, it seems as if the CoolBits hack doesn't work with the MX series of cards. I believe the newest version of NVMax will allow you to OC your card (it's compatible with the 21.81's and works with the MX's).

The download is at the bottom of the page. The newest version of Powerstrip is also compatible with the newest drivers (so I've heard, I haven't tried it).
Thanks redduc900. Well, I tried NVMAX but it needs some MSVB60 DLL file that I don't have nor want to install. I tried Powerstrip and it worked great. Only nuisance is that I have to click on OK to the hint pop-up everytime Windows loads. I haven't used Pstrip since the days of my TNT2. I guess that will have to do for now.
