Im graduating high school in may 2005 and I would love to have a job in the high performance computer industry. What schools/courses do large companies "ati/nvidia/amd/intel/corsair" expect their employees to have. Like what major should I take if i want a career in the computer industry
All of those companies need tons of differently trained people, from those who design the boards, the logistics crew, programmers, sales/customer relations and management.

Computer engineers and EE type degrees are also sought after.

I'd imagine you've never done anything like this. Well, it isn't as exciting as you would think. Designing hardware for graphics cards and designing hardware for thermostats for commercial buildings is going to feel exactly the same after about six months.
You will NOT get a well-paying job tinkering around with hardware like we do.
Your safest bet right now would be networking and/or security. You CAN'T outsource these jobs.

Electrical engineers or programmers if you're into that sort of thing. Personally I'm taking Digital Media Studies, it's a lot more open ended, for instance I've taken classes in 3D Studio Max, photoshop, illustrator, final cut pro, lightwave 3D, various Macromedia progs, cold fusion, etc. Basically if you're interested in computers but don't want to sacrifice all your time to an engineers schedule, you can explore different fields and experiment in combining different program knowledge to whatever means you like. Right now I'm taking my second 3D modeling and animation class, we can make a 15-20 second animation of our choice in 3D Studio Max. Next year my university is opening up Gaming as a major, where they combine programming, digital art, and 3D to create games for your personal suite or portfolio.

i think im going to get an advertising/multimedia/graphic design degree from the art institutes, i tried the programming route and it wasn't for me, nor is an engineering degree of any kind...my math simply isn't up to par. But artistically and creatively i feel that i can make a contribution to the computer industry because there are alot of things i don't feel are being done right concerning advertising and marketing
