I know there is Shattered Galaxy, but I'm looking for something more recent and RPG-based. By free I meant no monthly fees.

Ragnarok Online
There are tons and tons of private servers. Just do a google search and you'll come up with many, and most, if not all, are free (besides the official).

Uh... it's not free... it says "Monthly fee" somewhere in the website.

Conquer Online (http://www.conqueronline.com) is a pretty good RPG. nothin fancy, but it has a huge community. Completely free also. It is better to down load it from this site (http://www.conqueronline.info/) because it will download faster.:burn:

Best free MMORPG I've played. Doesn't lag at all. Plenty of populated servers. Theres a huge PvP area.

If you opt to you can pay $5 a month for premium service which includes new areas in the game and quests. But you definitely do not need this in order to have fun.

Seconded.
It's also my pick because you can play it in school computer labs through the browser.
The community is pretty immature, but more cooperative than most I've seen since the imprmptu economy system requires it.

I'm a lvl-86 btw :)
