hi there
is a full pentium3 really so much better than a celeron....?
just bought the new 1,1 GHZ celeron and run it at 1300 MHZ.
with 3dmark2000 it brought me a benchmark of 5500 points.
my old p3 700@933 makes 6200...?!?!?!?!?!?!?
anybody any idea what that means?

hercules geforce ddr 140/333
256 mb cl2
ibm dtla 45 GB 7200

The celeron is running almost 400mhz faster and still scores lower. I think that's about right.
The extra L2 cache (256 on Pentium 3, 128 on celerons) helps the performance of the processor, especially in games and escpecially in 3dmark2000, which is pretty CPU intensive (more than 3dMark2001).

Sound about right. @ 1.1Ghz I get whooped by a Duron 850 :(

For me it sounds strange,
coz generally at the same speed a P/// outperform a Cellie of 150-200Mhz, but in your situation we are speaking of 366Mhz!?

The crud L2 of a celery gets really importants as Mhz increases
Sounds about right to me. This is why bussineses and high end guys go with the Pentium over the Celeron. Also is why mhz for mhz the AMD stuff usually outperforms the Intel products. They have more cache generally. This is also why the Celeron is so much cheaper than the Pentiums as well. Oh well, it gives us cheap playtoys to OC the crap out of.
Itīs simple : FSB speed.
P/// 700@933 = 133MHz FSB
Cel 1100@1300 = 118 MHz FSB
Considering this + smaller cache + fewer cache association lines + 64-bit cache bus (P/// uses 256-bit) + smaller cache hit ratio + smaller branch prediction ratio and the performance is about right.
A shame isnīt it ? Donīt know why I love cellys sooo much...

i am looking to get the celeron 1100 and i still am, it is good and can be pushed very far, at least they are not still on a 66MHz bus

getting my 600 to 1.2Ghz is my ultamate goal. after that itll either be dead or supersceded. Ive manged to POST at 1116Mhz (old 600 worked at 1116Mhz) but not any higher. looks like i gotta remove some stoff from my computer.
That the problem of all celeron low cache only 128Kb for ex: the p3 1000Mhz has 256Kb (Fc-pga) and the p3 550Mhz has 512Kb (slot1) i've these cpu's they're are great in benchmark all p3 are but if you a cpu just to overclock the cel's are the best intel choice!!!
