Not all websites can be pinged either. The site may be down or its just not ping-able. Try pinging microsoft.com, you'll get no reply, yet their site works just fine.

its not that i cant ping anyone. there r few websites that i could not open up to now: www.nameplanet.com and www.safeweb.com r two of them. i cant ping both but other ones have no problem at all. i gotta find out a solution for that.

The reason you can't ping these webservers is because they have turned off their ping reply.. they're getting the ping, and saying, "That's nice.." and not replying. The webserver is running fine, but they disabled it because of security reasons, or bandwidth restrictions.

There is no solution on your end..

(just to give you an idea, if everyone in the world that is using a microsoft product pinged microsoft once all at the same, it would crash their site

another reason that you may not get replies are that the may have a firewall set to block the udp ping port (7) most large sites use load balancing and have many servers but all requests are routed through one server like a ias server and these act as firewalls plus i have had some expirences where an isp will block udp port 7 most likley if you cant ping it try to run tracert and see where the trail stops
