what would happen if i used a 512 stick of pc2100 and a 512 stick of pc3200 on the same mobo? im just wondering. my motherboard accepts both i believe. What would be the outcomes of this action?

If I am not mistaken I think that it will clock the 3200 down to the 2100 speed..

But I am not sure of this :bday: ..I am sure you will get an answer though.

What motherboard is this? If this is an Intel dual channel mobo, there might be a conflict. Ir192 is correct in that multiple sticks of mixed RAM can only run as fast as the slowest module.

it's not an intel dual channel mobo. its just a plain socket 754 amd 64 mobo.

theres a link.

so would it be better for me to run the 3200 all by itself. or would it be better to add my 2100 into the mix ? that would be a gig of 512 running at the pc2100's speed. but hmm...3200 is much faster than 2100. isnt pc3200 like at the same speed of a gig of 2100 or not?

well it will default both to the lower speed. but if the 2100 is good at OCing, you might be able to run it at 3200 speeds. i think it would be better to run the 3200 by itself, sell the 2100 and get another 3200 stick.

Start sticking them in there and play around, see what happens. I think everyone is in agreement that you aren't going to trash anything. Just try the different combinations of the one pc3200 stick and then both sticks and see what works better and benches higher.

What FSB speed are you using? PC2100 is only rated for 133 FSB, but PC3200 is rated for 200 FSB. I've seen plenty of PC2700 run at PC3200 speeds, but it's a little rarer that PC2100 will run at PC3200 speed. On the other hand, if the PC2100 will do at least 166 FSB, then maybe they would be ok together.

yep, if u cant get the pc2100 to 166, then the pc3200 would have no probs running 166. only thing is thats like putting a 4 cylinder in a porche. the a 64 can run up to 300mhz in sc. i would sell both and start out with 512 of some good tccd based memory.

i have no where to sell my 512 pc2100 to and im problably not gona sell my stick of 512 pc3200 any time soon
