View Full Version : Question on Flashing X800pro
I originally asked this question in the Sticky about flashing your x800 to x800XT-PE, but its 20 pages long , and nonone has replied in 2days.
What I want to know is; why do we flash the bios the extra time back to the XTPE bios?
Is there just a XT bios we can flash to and be done, after the initial xtpe one that enables the 16pipes?
the reason being x800 xt pe runs at 520/560 stock,x800 xt runs at 500/500,and a x800 pro runs at 475/450 all stock speeds,so i think it`s just a way to get back to your stock speeds so your card wont overheat.
Ok i got that part down, but what i am not understanding is why does the XT bios flash (the last step in the sticky) still have the card show up as a xt-pe
Right now my core/mem is 572/582 on a x800pro w/the 16 pipes, thats a crazy OC, at least in my book. Is my card reporting bad mhz?

bad mhz??? Your card will only report whatever frequency you set it to. So if you set your clock speeds to 572/582 then yes, you have a nice beefy oc
Thanks, ya I ran 3dmark 03 & 05, and saw my score it pretty high! I can't complain about that! but back to the original question, why the three flashes?
the first flash for the xt is a gigabyte bios flash, not a ati flash, the last an final flash,is the official ati x800xt pe flash.I dont understand why you have to do both either, could it be that gigabyte is the one that opens the 16 pipes???,then the last one sets the speeds.and change the name back to ati.

The first Gigabyte flash unlocks the 16 pipes for good. This is the only vendor bios that will unlock the 4 extra pipes altho you can get a modified flashrom that will do this here (http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/100). The advantage to using it is you only need to flash once--to XT or XT-PE bios, and the 4 pipe unlocking is now reversible. In the original version you first enable pipes with Gigabyte bios. Second flash is to restore your overclock since the Gigabyte bios is apparently bad for overclocking. The final flash just ups your stock speeds.
