I currently run a couple of servers on my LAN that can be accessed by the WAN as well. I just recently recieved a new router/wap/dsl modem combo for my DSL connection and was going to throw out my old router, till I found that I could no longer access the LAN servers using the WAN ip address. And if I remember correctly, I know that alot of routers will not allow that either. I know, I know, why not access the server directly using the LAN ip? I cant, not with this particular server. I must be able to access it using the WAN ip.

I just tried calling a few manufacturers "tech support" flunkies asking about the products to see if they would allow such connections to be made, and thier usual answer was "just open the correct ports". :bang head

Anyhow, anyone know of a router/wap listing that shows what hardware supports such a connection? Or care to test it on thier router/wap hardware?

Could you post the specs on your new router, mfg/model, then we might be able to help better.

It the one provided by Verizon and thier 1 year agreement DSL package.

Westell Versalink Gateway (Model 327W)

I spoke directly with the techs at Versalink (3 of them) and they stated that it cannot allow connections between 2 LAN pc using the WAN ip. So in the meantime I'm trying to get it to work as a standalone network switch/WAP, since I need the WAP functionality for a laptop. Key word is "trying" :bang head:

It'll route request to the WAN side for a couple of seconds, then stop routing them. I'm getting a headache with this router. You can download a manual for the Versalink at Westells website (www.westell.com), but it doesnt really explain all the settings and options clearly (at least not clear enough for me). Anyone wanna take a stab at it? Maybe someone knows something the techs dont and can figure out a solution to my problem(s).

I'm starting to hate networking.
