i just joined last night as micrors4racer since ATI was taken already. it is running at my old HP 900mhz celeron with Fedora Core 2 in it. i do have a couple of questions. is that all i do? type my name in and put the team number in it? no registration or anything to become an officially recognized member?also am i suppose to do any tweaks to make my computer fold better?and where are the team stats located? like the stats for ocforums, [h] and others so i can see team stats and compare?

Stats can be found here: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_list.php?s=

There is no formal registration needed to be a member of the OC team.

You don't really need any flags for folding on Linux - you're set!

welcome to the team, man!!! it's great to have you helping us out. Yeah you are officially registered at stanford, and your super "rainbow stats" will appear here after the next update (every 3 hours): http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/

just do a search for your screen name. it is very useful. If you being wondering how many points you are getting for a work unit or deadlines or anything like that, there are a couple third party programs. fahlogstats is very nice: http://fahstats.sourceforge.net/

also emIII: http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude1/emsite/download.html

just make sure you are folding for team "32"!!!

THANKS!!! :sn:

*edit*: ya beat me while i was typing!

You have to submit your first work unit before it will show up. Then within 3 hours, EOC (the page you looked at) will turn your name up via a search. Though, only if you're a member of the top 2000 teams.

check in 2 days and the machine will have turned one in, a few of the work units take 2-3 days to complete, depending on if you got a big or small one. the program that veryhumid linked you to will help you to see

Are you also folding with that P4? If not you should.
I have 16 (maybe 17) machines folding.

Welcome to the team!

Once you get a few work units turned in (WU's in folding speak), then we can tell you how to get more points and better productivity to get you racing up the points charts.

I hope you get addicted, it can be a ton of fun. God find some more rigs to pump out work units for you! :attn:

We are in 3rd place, sometimes we outproduce the other teams though. The thing is, if we could keep up the production levels for long enough, we could take'em.

(We might even be 4th place if they still count all the anonomous users on Team 0 )

Welcome welcome! :)

Folding gets even more addicting when you start getting other computers under your name, and your points per day keeps rising and rising!

With Wedos one-click installer for windows, it becomes easy when you're walking around with a floppy or USB micro drive in your pocket :) Just make sure to ask first, and explain that it won't harm their computer, and they won't see any slow downs. Also, explain how it will help people!

"Build, Borg, Recruit!"

That's our motto :)

Yeah,
This guy ^^^ just passed me 3 hours ago. Get enough PCs working for you and you could too.

(pass me too fast and I'll have a F-16 drop a bomb on your PC) ;)

i got another 1ghz laptop to fold for us

I'm working on a few borgs, lost my thumb drive though, so no mobile one click.

However, I'm HOPING to build a 20-30 GHz farm somewhere in the next year, either through accumulating half of the parts and then the rest, or just saving up like a mofo for the stuff later on.

If what I hear is true, F@H might support cluster computing sometime soon? Should be sweet if it does, then I could really put those 20-30GHz to work.

We'll see how it goes.

ati
12-21-04, 07:47 PM
ive been hearing the term "farm" what exactly is it"?

Seven
12-21-04, 07:55 PM
A farm is basically a group of linked folding machines (sometimes). Do not confuse it with a dualie or supercomputer setup, that's sometime we call cluster computing.

A farm is a bunch of semi-cheap rigs, setup in layers, folding 24/7. This maximizes production vs. cost because you CAN set it up so that they all boot off of 1 machine with a hard drive and CD-rom, which is the master server. I'm working on building one, but we'll see how this goes.

But you physically cannot beat the power of 20-30GHz of independent machines folding at the same time 24/7.

Some people are really dedicated and have a whole bunch of barebones systems running just for folding. They have no CD drive, a PC, memory, power source, modem and not much else. Then they link them all together and have them all Fold.

OSUmaxx, haven't seen you around in awhile (since WW3 was going on)
I know I haven't been around as much as I'd like to, but it's good to hear from my ally now and again.

Almost done doubling my production (w00t, my 3rd work unit of all time). With only 1 rig folding and no borgs in sight, I think I'm hopeless. I better pick up some $$$ for christmas :D

Anyway, a warm welcome to all new folding members. Our production is on an upward curve if you look at the EOC Folding Stats, which is good.

However, we're gonna need a lot more

a) active users
b) PPD production
c) Austrailian heat

To be able to take 2nd. FOLD ON!

Welcome to the Team, you're gonna love it...

Just got my two rigs back up and running after a couple of months away from home, and I hope to put another 2 Gigs to folding for Team 32 in the near future...

Folding away on the Sacramento River...

Yeah, I'm still around, I just don't post quite as much as I used to. Being on dialup and sharing it with other people has made it a little hard. Good to hear from ya :) I'm adding another 2.5 GHz by the first week in Jan, so that should help a litle too.

OSUmaxx: Yeah, school KILLED my output (not that it was amazing either way), but I can't run it during the day...so that makes folding hard. Winter break has fixed that though.

Yeah...running my pathetic Pentium 4 2.4B at 100% as much as I can, just to turn in a half work unit per day. Sad.

Even getting myself to top 1,000 would be an achievement. I'll need more borgs and more rigs under myself though.

If only I had $2,000 for that farm I wanted....*drool*
