View Full Version : seti... too many problems
Lately I've been having problems with seti # 3. I am caching 5 W/Us and the 3rd one is messing up constantly. I get erro messages and the system hangs almost daily...

I had this problem on one of my machines this week. I ended up deleting everything out of my seti folder and setting it all up again. It seems that there have been some corrupt WU's sent out of Berkeley, and during the upload, it has caused some machines to perform an illegal operation. What it does is it tries to transmit more than one WU at the same time, basically calling up 2 sessions of the dialer at the same time. One WU is usually corrupt and the other maybe O.K., but still screws up everything.

Dito her as well...Reinstall everything thats what I had to do
Seems there is no easy way out. But what really bothers me is that I had this kind of troubles prior the "big crash" and now again after formatting and reinstalling everything fresh. Always seti # 3. I think maybe another application is trying to use the same addresses as seti # 3. Will reinstall seti/spy/driver... if this issue continues... will be caching only 2 W/Us...

After you get everything back up and running - post back if you're still having probs.
Yep ! I'm Still having problems...
Last night I reinstalled from the trio zip file. And seti #3 didn't waited untill fully downloaded, freezed the system right there when only left to download about 10 or 20 kb of the W/U. What I did is that I set Driver to cache only 2 W/Us, which sucks, cuz I like to cache 5 or 10 W/Us. Don't know what else could I do, but love to solve this problem and cache as many W/Us as I like. (We all know what a seti server problem can do to us if we don't cache enough...)
There is no more seti #3 but error messages of seti #3 still showed up. Did a couple things here and there. Deleted Symantec's stuff (trial version already expired) and things seems to go better now. Don't have any error messages since last night.
Explorer 5.5 was giving errors too. The system shut down by itself and restarted a couple times yesterday. I'm keeping an eye to it very closely.

It seems like you're having general system problems. You might consider some drastic work on your machine.
I hate giving that advice. :(
Actually found something fishy here. With no explorer opened I hit ctrl alt del once and find explorer on top of the list. I think it should not be there...

That's supposed to be there...that's the shell that you're running...unless you changed it.

Sometimes Windows is a bad dog. It usually corrupts a dll sooner or later. Random errors, unexpected crashes.....when you have installed and reinstalled lots of applications and the same errors return then the dreaded fdisk-format-reinstall windows theme is the only solution.
I hate to suggest this, but you might be dealling with a dll corruption here.
