I just got an amd 1.4 gig 266fsb cpu, and I can't seem to get my abit kt7a mobo to recognize it. I've flashed the latest bios (3r) and it supports 1.4/133. When I go into soft-menu, it doesn't even give me the option for 1400/133, it just has "above 1200" .
I tried to input the settings manually, but it wouldn't post. Right now it's running 1300 (13 x 100).
I've also noticed that it only has the option for 100 fsb unless you choose user defined, which I don't think is right.
Help, I bought 1.4 and that's what I want!!
Abit kt7a (not raid)
Amd 1.4 t-bird (266fsb)
geforce 2 64ddr
soundblaster 5.1
300w psu
Did you reset the CMOS after flashing the BIOS?

from the response, I'd say I stumped everyone. Of course, I know that's not the case, so if you have any idea let me know:cool:

A 1.4 gig 233FSB??? Maybe you mean 266FSB. Anyway, I run the 3R BIOS & it HAS the 1400/133 option & the above 1200 also. There are a total of 4 3R BIOS versions available so which one do you have? Where did you download it from?

You're right, I did mean 266. I got the 3r from the abit bios download sight. It was the only version that I saw there that supported the 1.4/133. Where can I get the other version, and why would it matter where I got it from, if it's still the 3r?
Thanks for responding :)
I believe there is a 3R0b & other modified versions of it floating around & also some hacked versions of it that will only work on the mobo of the guy that did it. I just clocked my CPU to 10.5 X133/33 so that kinda proves that it's available in BIOS. At ABOVE1200/33 what did WCPUID report?
You can check here (www.viahardware.com) for some other versions but I wouldn't go near it.

Dang!! At least it's easy to communicate with you. There is one thing. Some shops have sold KT7A claiming that it has the KT133 chipset not the KT133A. I checked on my northbridge & there is no mark that says it the KT133A chipset but then again the mobo that I have was probably one of the first few that was left in a warehouse & not marked. Not likely but... Maybe RAM or I/O voltages that keeps you from reaching 133FSB?

Got it...
Turns out that the person I bought it from (over the internet) actually sent me a kt7 after I payed for the kt7a. This, of course, explains everything. Once I actually thought to check the mobo (which I should have done to begin with) it was very obvious. Needless to say, I plan on getting the right one or my money back.
Thanks for all the help, Sonny. Doesn't it always turn out to be something stupid?:)
LOL!!! There you go!! Hope you get the board you paid for or your money back. I wouldnt say stupid cause it's something that can happen to anyone(always be nice). Glad to help.
That blows my theory. My KT7-raid and 1.0G was booting @ 700, even if I changed to user define. After I unlocked the processor it finally booted @ 1000 on its own, then it was all oc from there.
