This is the main computer in my sig.

When I boot up normally it takes about 3-4minutes just to get into windows, then another 2-3mins just to boot up all the other crap. Then when I hit reboot it takes about 4-5mins to shut down windows, then start all over again.
My scores are still waaay above average in 3dmark/aquamark but its just so slow for stuff like this.

Also its been a little unstable from time to time, and im on stock speeds. I used to be OC'd pretty hardcore, but the stabilty wasnt worth it, plus it was acting slow like this all the time too.

Sometimes my icons in the taskbar dont show up for startup, there should be about 8 of them, but sometimes only 4 will show up, sometimes 5-6. But never all the ones that should be.

Its virus/adware/spyware/trojan free, but its wierd.

Probs a driver problem.

Have you been messing around with anything to do with the ATI control centre recently?

Problems with network connections can cause slow boots and shutdowns. Check in MSconfig for anything that could be trying to get internet access that you have blocked using a firewall.

Coin has good point. Also check to see if any services or programs on boot do a check for updates or any other function.
How many services do you have running this may also effect boot times. You could try to use bootvis. That gives me pretty good results most the time. I would backup or make restore point first if you choose to use it. It has been known to not play nice. Rare it does though.
I get pretty good gains (23 seconds from cold boot to surfing) by setting sevices correctly and doing a defrag of the MFT, clear the prefetch and then optimizing the boot and drivers with bootvis.
Another thing to check is your RAM by running memtest. I had a stick go bad and it hosed my windows load times and shutdown.
I never really minded a slow reboot/shutdown, but here is link to help you troubleshoot it. http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php
Hope this little bit of information helps you.
