1. Are you overclocked
2. Have you tried safe mode
3. Have you gone into your bios and checked your voltages and temps.

Could be a spyware, check your processes

ahahahah. yah my first one. as my sig says, i am getting a new Mother boared. so what if the problems continue on the other one. then what could be the possible problem
*Note: i am only getting a motherboared for now. so my Hard Drive, Ram, PSU, and stuff will be replaced later.**Also i will have my old CPU*

Sounds like a temperature problem. Find a nice cold AC vent somewhere in your house and tump your case over on top of it.
Or just put the case outside. :P

Check the voltages on your PSU as well. I just had the PSU on my main rig take a sudden vacation, 12v was suddenly gone. CPU fried (dont know why). Replaced both and after double checking the Mobo, all is well with the world.

This is definitly a RAM problem, trust me. I've had it happen to many machines.
Replace the RAM before you replace your motherboard.

kk. PSU is a 350. ram i have a random 128 and a 256 in there. and as far as teh CPU gouse its a AXP2400+. temp of my CPU is 89 F.
hmmm. test each seperate ram stick, boot, check it, replace and try again.
if fails, try switching the slots, still fails, then throw in ur NF7-S 2.0 about now =)

Check the voltages. BTW, at first, I was going to say that the processor was overheating. Lately, it seems, chiefly n00bies, have been putting the heatsink on backwards or don't use heatsink compound.
It's also possible that the RAM not being synced with the FSB can cause that symptom. If not running with the ratio at 1:1.
Hmm ok so ur 128mb pc2100 taken out, still made it hang...Wierd that how u can chat to me on aim, surf web, run prime95, yet playing a video makes it hang...
interesting.. ok test ur 256mb pc-xxxx? now

I dont think that is the case because he has no overclock, and it has always been at stock because of a locked bios. so thats not goign to be the problem
nice thinking though

Crashing when playing a video probably is a video card issue.

thats a good idea. imma take the graphics card out and test then.
its a nVIDIA 5200 :(
no i doubt it would be a video card issue...otherwise it would crash during boot, the graphics accellerator would lock up. not the computer.

I think it's temp related. Are you SURE that 89f, not 89c?
Playing a video has little to do with the video card.
I would see if its possible to run memtest86 and see if you pass.
Also inspect the motherboard and make sure all capacitors look to be in good shape. Does the system lock up consistantly during the same time period during boot, or do you get father into windows sometimes?

ok i just put all my old mobo in my nf7-s 2.0 and im working on it. ill tell you guys if it locks up again as soon as im don formatting and installing new windows.

I honestly don't think that your CPU is at 89f... atleast with a compaq.

NO. i added a new Heat sink and fan, i got a new Case with 2 fans in. and now i changed teh mother boared.

12-24-04, 07:32 PM
oh, missed that. I still think it's a temp problem. Where did you put the thermal probe? And did you use thermal compound?

12-24-04, 07:42 PM
yes. well i did now. so yah imm still stuck with the SATA for the new Mother Boared. as soon as i fix that ill tell yall if that stil happnes. i personally think its from the ****ty parts of compaq.

ok. the hanging is fixed but yesterday ps2cho tryed to help me put the FSB up from 133. we started with 140 and it was stable. but suddenly afetr liek 7 minutes of Prime 95 it restarted by it self. for some reason when i tryed to boot the comp it said that my hard drive wasent working and it was. it even showed up in the BIOS. so i had to format the comp and install a fresh windows XP on it. now the restarting happened again this morning. and i lost my files once more. if this helps last night i installed service pack 2 but not this morning. WTF is wrong with this thing and im really pissed at lossing my files again and again. any ideas? :bang head  :bang head  :bang head

Doesn't mean a thing if it's a sub-par quality unit. What brand/model? It could also be defective/dying.
Dam....too bad I just noticed this thread, I had the same thing happen to me and nothing worked. I then switched boards, convinced it was the crappy board(AN35) I tossed it in the trash and replaced it with a gigabyte board I had laying around...now the Gigabyte board is trashed.....PSU is the culprit, now u need a new board also more than likely.
I asked once, so I will ask again. What are your voltages at? This is something you should have looked into before buying a new even more power hungry board.

ok.
1) motherboared still works.
2) PSU came stock with my case. and my case is a Aspire X-Dreamer Black Mid-Tower Case.
3) every thing is at stock
4) My volts are as my Abit program says.
- VCore: 1.62V
- DDRV: 2.62V
- +3.3V: 3.34V
5) comp temps are 90.3F CPU and system is around 80F

Sparkle, Fortron, Antec. Only brands/models I use anymore personally. If a client requests, I will use a PC Power & Cooling model as well.
Not familiar with "mad dog" power supplies, might not be any better than your last unit. Try it out and see.
ever think bout bad sectors in your HDD?
even tried changing the drive?
just wondering cause windows will lock up on me with totally no reason at all cause my HDD is like 3 years old and restarts randomly
just a suggestion
That would be really interesting if it is the harddrive. I have never seen a HDD cause consistant resets. Usually a BSOD or a hard freeze.
its not his psu.
Since you have been working with him, it might be good to give us some info if you have any.
Since it reset during prime, it doesn't help us any since prime stresses pretty much everything but the vidcard. Memtest (to "possibly" narrow it down to memory or northbridge) or a prime test set to lower size data (to "possibly" narrow it down to cpu/heat/psu).
i havnt been working with him, i helped him do the first oc, but setting fsb to 140 from 133, then told him to run prime95 for 10mins, then i had to go.
But what im saying is, Its not his psu, as some of u have suggested. i know for a fact, seeing as he replaced the old psu, with a newer better one.
