I have a BFG 6800 GT OC and I want to get it up to 400/1100
Is it a good idea?
Will it lower the lifespan of my card? I need it to last 2 years.
What program will work for me and is easiest to use to oc?
if you really want to use it that long dont overclock.

^^^Pretty easy to use.
Well, unless you're unhappy with the performance don't oc. Having said that, 400/1100 isn't really a crazy oc anyways. I'd give it a go and if you don't notice any difference you can always drop it back down to stock speeds.

Dude, you definetely are a member of the wrong forums with that kind of comment. We overclock everything here. :bday:
For the record. Overclocking can not kill your card. The resulting increase in heat could if you let it get out of hand, but that is not likely. It would probably just freeze up if it got too hot and require a reboot to work again.
Here is a little tutorial for how to overclock your card.

Really... If you want it to last 40 years instead of 20 you can underclock it...sheesh

When I had my 6800GT I used coolbits and it worked like a champ.
i currently have my X800pro clocked at 516/521 but only because i expect to use it for 6 to 12 months.

Since you don't have experience in overclocking, rivatuner can be challenging. EXPERTool is easy to use, and some say they get a higher overclock using it.
