Hey all, I just got my first H20 (thermaltake big water 12cm) anyways I did everything the instructions said to do to the letter and even went online to compare notes and pics but here's the problem , With air cooling I was getting 38C after 1 hour idle now after installing the H20 I'm getting 53C. I've been messin around computers 10 years now and finally broke down to get this thing. Things that have been checked 7 times already water cooling level, proper amount of thermal,Hoses connected correctly , Water block tight , coolant flowing correctly , No pinched hoses ,air flow through the radiator ect. The one thing I'm not sure about is if I have the proper block . I have an amd 64 socket 939, Is this compatible with the block that comes with thermaltake big water ? I did everything right out of the box with no adjustments.

Yikes man I just took a look at that cooling kit on their site and about all I can think to say is I'm sorry man.

I hate to sound so negative but that thing is crap from start to finish. A pump that moves 30 gph is a really bad start and I'm sure thats with a very low head height. It also mixed metals, aluminum rad with copper block. The tubing looks way to small, what is that like 4mm ID tubing? There's no mention of how much heat it can effectly dissapate. I'm not sure how your ever going to get the results you expect out of that system.

Wish I had some better news to give you. You made a good CPU selection but your choice in watercooling solutions wasn't so good.

A simple setup containing a Swiftech waterblock, MCP350, and a single 120mm black ice rad would of been much more along the lines of what you need and expect for performance.

crap !!!!! I knew I should have came here first. It got great reviews , Maybe that was for a reg. athlon like an amd athlon xp 2000 or something. Hey , You think they take returns or should I do ebay, Bet ebay and take my losses. You Guys think I should just buy piece by piece or spend the loot for another kit ? At this point I need to spend less as possible now.

Better yet I'll just go through all the forums and figure something out But if someone wants to through you 2 cents in , By all means please.

See if you can get a refund of some sort, if not it looks like it's ebay. Your best bet is to buy piece by piece. Sry you had to waste your money on that "thing" . Good Luck on your next build.

ok here's what I come up with so far:

Black Ice Xtreme 120mm Radiator

Swiftech MCW6002-64 for AMD® K8 Athlon™64 & Opteron™

Is it possible to achieve at least 30C at idle with these 2 items so far ?

BTW, I did put it up on ebay with a three day listing if anyone is interested.

Add a MCP600 pump to that and some 1/2" clearflex hose plus some clamps for the barbs and you should be in good shape.

With a good fan on the rad and pending what your rooms ambient temps are 30c should be doable.

Not sure what size case you have but if you could fit a dual 120mm radiator it would give you some room to grow if you decide to WC your video card.

My current system specs are :
ATHLON 64 3500+ 939
ABIT AV8
160 GIG SATA HDD
100 GIG HDD
DVD BURNER
DVD PLAYER
AUDIGY 2 GAMER CARD
XP HOME
STOCK HS & FAN FOR CPU
NVIDIA 6800 128

Yes I was thinking of adding something for video card too but my main concerns are the cpu right now but after that I would like to be able to add to this without sacrificing too much performance on the cpu cooling . So what your talkin about is still doable right ? It's amazing how much heat these newer graphics cards are putting out. My temps in the room stay at 75 degrees or less.

that waterblock is great, so stick with that. As for the radiator, the black ice ones are very good, but are overpriced IMO. What most people do around here is take a heatercore from a car and use it with 120mm fans. There are two that seem to work especially well: for single heatercores (1x120mm fan), the '86 Chevette seems to be the best. For double heatercores (2x120mm fan), the '77 bonneville is great (Fedco 2-302), as is the Fedco 2-342 (I forget what car it was in). So if you wanna go really cheap, like $20, you can just buy one of these at autozone and mod the barbs on yourself. Or if you are lazy like me, you can buy it for a little more with the barbs pre-modded, from somewhere like dangerden. Just put two of the sanyo denki fans in the classifides on it, and youre good to go.

The double heatercore will give you significantly better temps, especially if you have a GPU block on there as well. The downside to it however is that its huge, and probly going to require some significant modding to fit your case. What case do you have BTW? You can probably find pics of how someone else mounted one in the same case, just look around here and in the stickies.

As for the pump, an Aquaextreme 50Z from cooltechnica.com should do nicely, its just a rebranded version of the MCP600, which was discontinued. Its powerful and pretty quiet, more so than the MCP650, and is DC which is handy. With a setup like that, just add some clearflex60 tubing from mcmaster.com and you should be basically set, you just need small things like hose clamps, a t-line, and some antifreeze (you should have about 10% even if you arent mixing metals), but those can be found at any kind of local hardware store or car parts store.

oh, and as for the graphics card block, get the silverprop fusion HL. you can get it from frozenmods.com, or directly from silverprop. Just make sure you get a double 6800 clip kit, as if you only get one it only mounts to two of the holes, and the securer the better. But it is without a doubt the best waterblock available for the 6800, it preforms the best and is all copper/brass so you dont have corrosion issues with aluminum. And it has 1/2" barbs, unlike the swiftech which is 3/8". I have one on my ultra, and it brought my temps down from like 75* idle to 40* idle, good stuff!

And you can make some shrouds out of cardboard for your fans to increase performance.
