Decisions decisions. Which is faster stock or OCed? Im getting one or the other, though I want one that will not get too too hot. I guess Im leaning towards the Radeon, but if it is alot slower than the 6800, I may just bite the bullet and go for the heat monster. Whattaya think? Oh, and links to threads asking the same thing are fine. I searched and got pages of stuff to sift through but nothing matching exactly. FWIW, I already have a water block that will fit the x800, but I can sell it and get an nVIDIA one if I have to.
Thanks,
AC

when you search find threads with a similar title, there have been plenty of them. basically they're about equal... but everyone has a preferance.

ahh i wish it was an easy answer, im in the same boat as you and like crime dog suggested i have been searching and searching.
so far all it really boils down to is
direct x is best on radeon
open GL is best on Nvid
and get a radeon if you think you are going to change your card within a year again but if you want something to keep for a long time then get a 6800.
personally i am leaning towards the 6800, mainly due to its sheer power, it seem like its going to last a bit longer, PS3 and last but not least i have to say i love the nvidia drivers compared to the ATI ones. Yes i have used driver cleaner before but all i ever had with my 9800 pro and my current 9200SE were problems, its a pain to get the s-video to work!
with my old mx440 and my friends 5200 fx its all plain sailing...
as for overclocking i cant really say, im not that much into video card clockin as it doesnt really make all that much of a difference when playing games. the onl difference you will see is in your 3d mark score...
go and have a look on tomshardware.com there is a lot of useful info on there

Yeah I searched again and came up with some good results. Thanks. I think I am going to go with the X800 on this machine. I plan on building an A64 SLI machine next, so Ill go nVidia on that one :)

I would go 6800Gt even though you didn't even mention it..lol Seriously though you could easily oc to Ultra speeds and save quite a fre bucks.
Between the 2 video cards though it seems the X800XT performs a tad bit better in just about everything but Doom 3, but Doom 3 is not that good anyway. I myself would go with the X800 if you really have the cash.
