Wich one of those are more efective? I'm asking this because when i use OpenGL the games run better (more framerate)
Why do some games prevent me of using OpenGL? They say OpenGL isn't compatible with my videocard! But sometimes some of them let me choose OpenGL (like Half Life) and the game runs much better!

what games would those be??...try getting a patch for the game...or try updating your video card driver...

OpenGL gives you higher framerates with really good looking textures.
Direct3D gives you less framerates with barely better looking textures.
All in all, OpenGL is the clear winner.
And there are some games that foolishy cater to Direct3D only, and dont allow Open GL. Games like Max Payne, Unreal Tournament, and alot of Lucasarts games.
OpenGL ownz D3D, but just barely.

Unreal Tournament does infact support OpenGL. It runs MUCH better than D3D on my gf2mx.
They're just 2 different standards, OpenGL having less crap between the program & hardware, I think.
I prefer OGL to D3D if possible, because games always run faster with it. Maybe it uses T&L even though the game's D3D driver doesn't, who knows.
On another note, OpenGL is more of an open standard, allowing people/companies to write their own extensions to it, where as DirectX doesn't have such extensions. Atleast I've not seen any mention of them anywhere.

I know you can use OpenGL in UT, but the implimentation isn't very good. You'll get chops and bumps alot, D3D is alot smoother, though OpenGL can get some HUGE framerates.
It depends a lot on the vid card your using too. I've got a Radeon and UT sucks using Open GL. D3D runs much better. And if I go in and tweak it a bit in advanced settings looks almost as good to.

there newer games are supposed to take advantage of d3d over opengl
I just d/led red faction and the graphics are awesome
I cant wait for the game to come out
