I have managed to break a pin off my socket 478 3.0Ghz Prescott. Is there anything I can do to fix it? The missing pin is just 1 away from a corner.
No, not really, is it broken or badly bent?

you could drop the remnants of the pin into the socket and then put the cpu in and it might complete the circuit. You could also put a dab of conductive grease over the broken pin (MAKE SURE it stays in that pin area).

Cut yourself a piece of single strand wire and insert it into the corresponding pin hole on the socket, be very careful about the lenght.....it must barely protrude from the socket(too long and it will bend and short on other pins).
It worked for me once.....good luck.

I tried that when I broke a pin trying to straighten them and the broken pin went all the way in the socket and I spent an hour getting it out.
sounds like its stuffed.i feel so sorry for you...

First things first, check to see if it works without the pin. It may just be a ground of no use.

Just because a pin came off doesnt mean its the end. As long as you can complete the circuit, it will be fine. Be creative.

Some pins are redundant and/or not needed. Try it without the pin and if it doesn't work try the wire idea, it' sounds like a good route to go.
either way just keep a calm head and don't move too fast or panic. That could cause further and unneeded damage to what could be a perfectly fine processor.
