I found out the ports to open(53,88,3074) to play a game but it still won't connect unless the firewall is off. Is there any settings I'm missing? I'm using sygate by the way. Windows firewall doesn't affect anything, just sygate.

Did you open those ports on both your firewall AND your router??? I haven't had any problems, but I'm using a McAfee firewall.
I don't have port 53 forwarded, but from what I understand, you'll want to make sure that 88 is open on UDP, and 3074 is open on BOTH UDP and TCP.

yes,all those ports on UDP and TCP are open. I don't have a router,so that isn't a problem. Maybe I just need to reboot after the changes?

Reboot doesn't help. Anyone knows if I must open any more ports or IP's.
Is this for XBOx live or system link?

xbox live, connected to an extra ethernet card in my computer.
When you said windows firewall does not affect anything, do you mean you have it disabled, or are both firewalls running at the same time.

xp firewall on and sygate off. That combo will work with xbox live.Sygate alone will block xbox live.
I am thinking that sygate and windows ICS are having some conflicts. Try this: http://forums.sygate.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=5459
and

found the problem. i need to disable netbios but needed to compensate by blocking TCP 135,139,445,1026 and block UDP 88,137,138. Then open UDP LOCAL 88. So anyone else got this problem, netbios is blocking xbox but you need to block some ports to get the same protection.
