ok I want to reformat my H/D and get rid of all the partitions and start over (for a duel boot) but im not sure how to do this in win2000 because ive never used it before..also is there an order that I should install these os's in? win2000Pro then win98SE?? or does it not matter?

To reformat use a win98 boot disk you can format from the win2k disk during install but the easiest way to do a daul boot is install win98se first then win2k.
go with one OS win2k and NTFS. almost all games work on it now and SP2 fixed all the bugs IMHO.
i did the same thing as your about to do and i found my self hardly ever useing win2k....
Always NT codebase first, then 9X...but as the post two spots up states "Just go with 2K and NTFS"
For a few reason's
1...Win2K is much more stable than 98se
2...DirectX8.1 makes the performance difference negligable
(Especially with your system specs..98 is only using 192MB
of your 256MB!!)
3...I'm guessing you have broadband, and NTFS has file level
security, so you don't need to run a software
firewall like you do with 9X stuff which has no security...
4...And yes, through updates Win2K now supports different
compatibility modes. You can even run F-18 on Win2K...

man am i haveing problems with partition magic... ARRRG!!! dont know what the deal is i've used it before and had no problems....but any how,ya the reason i was duel booting is because of the games i think my printer, scanner, cam and all that stuff is compatable.well seeing im having so much trouble with partition magic i think i will just install win2000Pro and run that for a while and see if i run in to problems.
2 questions though..
1.will i have to reformat again if i deside to duel boot and then reinstall win98 first.. even though its prefered not to can i install 98 while i'm still running 2000?
2.do i have to merge all my partitions before i fomat?? (so i can get rid of the partitions) because its not formating my whole disk just the seperet partitions..oh ya i'm useing the 98 cdrom not a flopy (dont have a flopy drive) does that matter??
and Topo, what's f18?? oops guess that was 3
:p
Thanks
Dont use partition magic. Win2k dosn't like it. To dual boot, format completely, install Windows2000 w/ FAT32 (MUST MUST MUST be FAT 32) then install Windows 98. But why would you want 98? Its a piece of trash (Like all other DOS-based OS's). Just use Windows 2000 w/ NTFS.

i agree with oni for the first half of the post
but......
u should install win98se first then do the win2k installation in win98se.......select like install seperately or something like that then just continue and u will get to use win98 and win2k dual boot

Well alot of people that I have talked to said just go with Win 2000 Pro and NTFS. So I did just that (for now anyways) I'll see how compatable it realy is with everything (mostly games) and then decide from there...I already noticed it don't like my high FSB speeds!! That's strike one

Just install Win2000 from scratch, you can play with your partitions in the setup...
