No im not about to try a crazy mod or OC or anything like that  but I had to think of some kind of title...
I have accumilated 550 dollars with my savin and xmas press :bday: so well I will be ordering a new card monday or tuesday. I want it to be a 6800 and I want to sell it for a decent amount of money so I can get a new PCI-E card when I switch to a PCI-E system in 4-6 months... sooo I dont want to OC it because I belive it will help the sales process if it has not been OCd and therefor has a valid warranty ;), so I dont have the slightest speculation to what the top o' the line PCI-E gfx card will be in the next few quarters and what price it will be wether it will be cheapper than an 6800Ultra or the same or more but if I bought a 6800Ultra it would give me great card now that will last a bit longer on its selling power than a 6800GT or nu so that s probbably the card I will go with unless someone can give me a good reason ot to, so whats the best card in that price range, i
if you can find and afford a 6800ultra go for it!!!the extreme edition is not in your price range nor available to mere mortals like us.the 6800gt is only good if you are going to overclock it and the plain 6800 sucks performance-wise.

if your gonna buy just to resell it soon, get a 9700pro and save the rest of your money for a high end pci-e card and a fast athlon 64 down the road. If you spend it all on a 6800 ultra, itll lose alot of value and you wont have much left later on. once pci-e becomes mainstream, agp cards will drop like crazy
i dont think the 6800ultra extreme edition has been officially released yet but i did see one with my own eyes on ebay a while back.it runs at speeds of 450/600 and is supposed to compete directly with the X850XTplatinum edition.and in case your wondering the retail price is $750!!!
and the plain 6800 sucks performance-wise
Sucks? Thats a pretty harsh statement considering it spanks all of the last gen cards including my 9800XT which most people still consider very usable.

That was me thoughts exactly. Guess it only sucks if you have the 500 skins to sling down on a video card.

You maybe right, so somethig like a 6600GT maybe? I don't want to go with an ATI... but if I buy an regular Ultra now not an extreme, buy it for 550 now when PCI-E becomes mainsream and AGP drop like a rock(by the time I sell this thing GF 7 will be out im shure) so I could expect to get 250-300 from this Ultra in half a year and well if I save my money and buy a lesser end 300 dollar card its not gonna sell for anywhere near that 6 months down the road, so I would end up with the same amount of money if I put my saved 200 bucks in a safe with a key and gave the key to a friend and said keep this for 4 months then give it to me would probably be the only way I would end up not spending it... and so thats my view on things and it may be a little waste of money to spend on a card but my system is good enugh and will last me for at least another year and a half if I dont end up building a new system and if I have a good video card in there. I want a good card becase I am sick and tired of fooling aroud with these GF3s and 4s, both i have gotten so mad I OCd them to near destruction  I am still in a tight spot to figure out whta I want to do becaue both optins are very valid but I am leaning towards a 6800GT or Ultra...
A 6800NU or 6600GT is a good investment in the sense that it will not kill you financially and always makes a good backup. I know down the line people will go pcie, but we always have that second rig or a buddy who has a lesser rig. I dont know if the ultra will hold that kind of value down the line. I mean it may be displaced with a newer midrange part that is cheaper down the road. I am in a similar position with my 9800XT. The sell for over $300 now still, but why would anyone buy one when a 6600GT is faster and cheaper? I will trade this for a 6600GT if at all possible as it will only become more outdated with time and as new cards come out. The very top of the line cards always lose the most as you are paying top dollar for recognition, not based on performance.

whats wrong with ati? they are just as good if not better. high end cards lose more value than mid range cards, this is a fact. thats your call what you wish to buy but I bought a 9500np and softmodded it to a 9700pro and it cost me all of 80 and performs near a 6600gt. If you must have nvidia, you can get the 6600gt but it costs almost twice a 9700pro and isnt close to twice as fast
well the X800XTplatinum edition is an option but the 6800ultra really is the best choice for you because you said you wont be overclocking and the gt is really the overclockers card and the plain 6800 slows to a grinding halt when you turn up the res/aa due to a complete lack of memory speed and pipelines and even a shader!.anything below a 6800 will just not do what you want it to do.

I say buy a cheap card to hold you out, oc550 is right -- cards depreciate like cars.

Yeah now im all worried what the hell to do lol, I want to have my games like BFV, FS2k4, BF2(when its out) to run at full settings with AA and all the goodies with out a problem so well your input is very good, a 6600GT is what I could seriously use but F^ck it if I end up with this GT or Ultra in my current sysem and sticking with it well into the PCI-E era then I will do that as long as it is getting the job done, I will wait a vid card generation or two before I upgrade if this thing wont sell for anything...
