I just started getting this error the other day, so i searched around and have exhausted any and all software related resolutions for this error. It seems to have started ever since i moved the machine from PA to VA but everything else works just fine. It started with my cdrw drive, then my dvdrw did the same thing, so i changed ide cables, jumpers, reseated all cables, reformatted, disconnected one drive at a time. yet i still get the error on either drive. i can read retail discs fine but when it comes to reading blank or burnt ones, i get random write errors and then "incorrect function" on a blank or burnt disc even if it burns ok with no errors.

the exact error is "f:\ is not accessible. Incorrect Function."

its XP pro by the way.

The inbuilt burning system often gets turned off when installing third party software that might conflict. Look in My Computer | Right click the drive, and select "Properties" | "Recording" tab...and see if "Enable" is checked. Also, check in Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services...for the line "IMAPI CD Burning", and see if the Service is started | If not, double click it and set the "Startup type" to Automatic...click Apply and click the "Start" button.

Also read up at...http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm on what the inbuilt burning does, and more important what it doesn't do.

ive tried this. ive also had that service disabled for almost a year and i never had this problem before.

i ran the utility with no luck.

it also seems that iso files burn just fine.

however, reading blank cd-rs/dvd-rs i still recieve incorrect function.

i also still get random errors when burning music/data discs.

this is the worst error i have ever gotten.
