Hey all
Just put in a ecs k7s5a 1.4gh tbird. This is my first amd and so far i love it. My q is if cpu temp shown in bios of 51c/123f is normal or not? I can't seem to find a suggested max temp. This board came with chip and Coolermaster EP5-6I11 fan assy..

welcome to the forum!

your temp seems a bit high for being in the BIOS. Did you use the pink goo that came with the cooler or arctic silver 2? If you use AS2 you'll probably shave 4 or 5 degrees off your temp. Lapping your hsf my be in order too.

As far as suggested max temp, try to keep the chip under 60 degrees (usually chips can run at around 70 degrees, but the mobo thermometers are highly inaccurate so a temp of <60 ensures you're safe....and running at 70 degrees definitely ISN'T recommended)

:) Hey
Actually this is just the way i got it. Pre assembled and tested with mobo cpu and hs/fan assbly. all i did wuz stick it in the case and wire it up. But it is a clip on hs/fan so its not hard i would think to change it to something better. Btw,when you say degrees you must be talking celsius..I hope..or im fried already.lol

I have the same mobo and am using a volcanoII hs/f
with artic silver and right now my 1.4 is running at 54 degrees C
while i'm running the distributed.net rc5 client. My case temp
monitor is showing 28 degrees C so i think that i just need
some better cooling, i ordered a bare sk6 heatsink from
1coolpc and hopefully it along with the volcanoII's fan
will be able to cool the chip down a bit while remaining
fairly quiet.
