Planetside is a MMOFPS persistent world (map does not reset) with insane potential for teamwork and strategy. I played it for about 5 months after release then picked it up again last month. The game has changed a bit... giant robots of doom.... (BFRs) but those have been balanced down to compensate, weapons buffed against them as well and they actually fit into the battlefield quite well now.
You really need to check out the movie download here, it's made by a player and really showcases the game.

PlanetSide 7 day Trial.
The 7 day free trial has been opened up again for anyone who wants to sample the game, or if you're an ex player and want to see the changes that have been made. You will need to make a new SOE station name - you cant use this offer with old characters if you've played PlanetSide before.
Whats PlanetSide? Watch this video http://www.marcopolo.me.uk/PSMovies/PS_AD_LARGE.wmv
Get hold of a free 7 day trial CD key from http://cmt.ubisoft.fr/planetside_pcgamer/
And a complete download (1.6gb!!) using this installer http://www.greyfalcon.net/psinstall.exe
PlanetSide seems to have turned a corner over the past few months - it's become a whole lot of fun again!
Enjoy.
i personally dont like planetside... i tried the trial thing before and thought it sucked...

A lot of people find it confusing at first and end up dying a lot more than they get killed. Mostly it's because they don't know which weapons to use or whether or not they should stay out of sight of some unit or fire on it which ultimately gets it's attention and it ends up killing them.
What didn't you like about it? I have a friend that hated it because he couldn't get any kills, then over teamspeak he says "*(&$^$# what do I have to do to kill someone, I put a whole clip of armor piercing into this guy and he killed me first"... well AP ammo is for vehicles and powered suits, all he was doing is chipping away at the armor on a grunt which doesn't take his health at the same time.

Yeah, I had a couple friends that really liked it, but i'm not into the pay to play games, especially to try it out. I may check it out now though. Thanks for the find

Alright, I beta'd this game and like it at first, but after a while, it just starts to suck.
It gets soooo repetitive. Eventually you realize that all you do is shoot people and try to take over a base.
Over, and over, and over.....
Eventually i just realized it was pointless and stopped playing.
You probably wont get this feeling in 7 days, though, so go ahead and play. You will have fun :)

Which games do not involve repetative actions? Either in the short or long term actions are repeated in games with a chance for you to get better at them.
I don't buy the repetative thing, especially in a FPS.

The difference is that in other FPS, there is a story with objectives other than taking over bases.
Now, don't get me wrong, PS is a revolutionary game, but it leaves a lot to be added and refined upon this genre. It's great to "experience" it, but in the long run, don't be surprise dif you los eitnerest rather quickly.

Oh ya... there's no story if you are only into Half Life types of shooters. This is more for Battlefield fans who want to play with serious strategy minded people.
It's not like connecting to some server with 3 good players, 10 newbs, and 2 TKing wack jobs making your gaming experience sour. It's a few hundred (should be more, which is why we are getting the word out) players trying to team up to beat the other empires.
For sure if you are looking for character development or some sort of story you won't find it. But you do level and get new certification points which you can spend on certs for vehicles and weapons to make your character more diverse.

Yeah, the main advantage of playing it for a long time is to gain level and use your certification point things.
