I took some of my christmas presents back and i have quite a hefty $um in gift cards to best buy now. I was thinking of upgrading my video card.
I was looking at Bestbuy.com and they have a
BFG GeForce 6800 GT 256MB for $400
or
ATI RADEON X800 PRO 256MB for $400

which is a better option? i have been out of the loop for quite some time now so i dont know what the latest and greatest really is. I dont have a preference between ATI or Nvidia I just want the best that best buy has to offer.
Should I wait and upgrade my current motherboard to a nforce 4 PCI-E (i have money saved) and get a PCI-E cards?
I am in no really rush. I am going to get a new mouse, videogames and what not and was curious if i should upgradge.

^^^Agreed. IMO you should wait for the Dual S940 Nforce4 SLI boards to come out, then upgrade your video along with the motherboard.

Both of those are great cards, but to me it would be smarter to wait for your pci express rig unless you are really hurting or your current card just fried.

You would be upgrading processor, ram, motherboard, and videocard all at once from your current set up.

Not quite, for him just his mobo and videocard. nVidia DOES plan to release a dually + SLI mobo for Opterons later this year ;)

I also vote to wait. you already have a 9700pro which will run most games at 1600x1200 with high details and af(but no aa) with intense levels having to back down to 1280x960. By the time you upgrade, the r520 may be out and prices of cards such as 6800gt or x800xl will drop and also new games that are slightly more demanding may come out. plus youll have more cpu power to take advantage.
