The HL2 contest went great, and I'd like to see something like that happen again sometime in January which we could again announce on the frontpage.

This is simply a probe to see how much interest there might be, and what sort of prize we might be able to offer as a group.

I'd like to see who would be interested in helping to make something like this happen? If you would like to contribute a donation towards running another contest, please post up here then PM to tell me what denomination you would pledge to contribute.

As I get some responses, I will let you know what seems within our means for us to do as a group.

As stated in the other thread I would be interested in donating.

I'd offer something like an Athlon 64 Winchester. Something that represents overclocking. Plus, it's definitly worth running Folding@Home on your computer for a chance at getting one of those for free.

But if I won a winnie I would have nothing to do with it... Games make good prizes, I'm sure there are other things too. We could do a budget gaming system like the one which was in the article on the frontpage, if we get enough funds. A CPU though, that would require many people to make an investment to get any use out of it.

We could get parts from various internet stores. They are usually glad to help as long as they get good exposure. They would have a nice link in the article we place on the front page and a link in the contest thread in the forums. That's a lot of good exposure right there.

I think this is an awesome idea. I can definitely pledge at least $10 a month.. all the recent exposure has really pushed us ahead and I think this is a great idea.

how about everyone pledges what they can through paypal, and we buy a nice item like an lcd monitor or a graphics card, kit of memory ect, kind of like the auctions from awhile back

Would anything be wrong with a Newegg gift certificate? Or do you think people would get more excited about an actual item?

i think people would get more excited over an item, a newegg gc is kind of open ended, but thats just my dos centos

If we had a Paypal account set up for donations I could probably send some money that way. I also have gmail invites that I could give for runner up prizes (I think I have 10).

A gift certificate would be nice to have as prize for NEWEGG.com For the sole fact some people may not like a certain game so they would have no interest in that. Graphics card well not all of us are gamers. :(
A nice prize I think would be some speakers for your computer, mainly because thats one aspect that everyone uses of ther computer for music, games, internet. Nice speakers from Altec Lansing for $71.00 I bought a pair and they are very very nice. They are on Newegg as well.

I would mix it up. maybe sometimes an actual gift certificate, sometimes a part. But I think parts would be more popular. Plus the retailer might be more inclined to give us a deal on it.

I think a few gift certificates would be cool as second/third/fourth/etc. prizes. It would also have Newegg's (or whoever's name) right on them, which would increase the chance of an actual store providing them rather than us having to buy them.
:)

i highly doubt the store would put anything towards it, but its worth a try, ESPECIALLY since newegg sponsors [H]

Newegg was just an example, there are plenty of other stores worth asking.

Didn't know this. Time for me to find a more reputable online store :-/

Everytime you go to newegg go through one of the ads on the main page. I always do.

I'm up for putting some money towards it. Something like an LCD monitor would appeal to gamers and non gamers alike. Perhaps one with a TV tuner as well...?

LOL, that'd be a huge kick in the nads from us to [H].
But a kick in the good name of scientific research!

Quite honestly, I think it's worth a shot. I'm somewhat against a newegg cert because it pretty much says "You have $100, spend it however you like." On the other hand, some people might like that more than say, a monitor because they're already running a 30" NEC monitor. It's really up to you guys, but I would say try it out. Newegg says no? We reply "Okay, whatever", and move on. There are PLENTY of resellers out there who would LOVE for this kind of exposure. It's a little hard to resist a front page post on one of the most popular computer sites in the world if you're a company who's just starting up.

I like the gift certificate idea. Games, components, etc. might not be liked by everybody, but who doesn't like a gift certificate?

Maybe 1 large(r) GC and then 2 for runners up or something like that? I can donate some (well a little) $$$.

Heatsink Factory. Almost everyone can use one of the best HS. Most of them fall under 50.00 and would yield more oc. A most appreciated prize. Could be winners choice up to a given amount or gift cert.

The 2 previous ideas both sound promising. Perhaps a big one from Newegg and 2 runnerups from Heatsink Factory. So how much enthusiasm has this generated IMOG? Oh and Bump :p

um, okay, I'll just take lead I guess (unless you mind IMOG, in which case IM me on aim) those interested in actually writing 'n working on this please e-mail me @ MLMIB@optonline.net and I'll get back to you. List idea's for possible places contact, so far we have newegg, heatsinkfactory, zipzoomfly, others? 'n I'll probably try to migrate this to the other thread because thats where we have the ND aproval.

Be my guest MLMIB, I just wanted to stoke the fire, was hopeing someone else would be interested in making something out of it.

Jabtech is a forum member, and a very upstanding retailer, so you might want to consider that as an option - he operates with slim margins to compete however, so I'm not certain if he'll be interested, but he will surely let you know if you ask. His store has some cool accessories.

As far as PM's that I've received, there have been a few generous pledges which I will keep in mind for when someone puts together the next contest. A couple monetary donations were offered totalling about $30-60, and there was a offer for possibly one or two game donations.

How about a dual memory kit in the 1 Gb range for a prize.
