I know it won't do me any good with my current motherboard but I need to get a new CPU... the old one os so gummed up with thermal crap that its overheating badly... I've tried cleaning it but the stuff is like gum...

Can I put a 1000mhztbird with a 266 mhz FSB intoa board that only supports 200mhz? I know I don't get the speed increase but soon I will get a new motherboard to go with the chip...

Can I upgrade one at a time? Or can I go the opposite direction and replace the motherboard first with a 266 FSB board and a 200 FSB chip?

I would do the M/B first and by the time you get your CPU they will be even cheaper

Ok... well I realize that by waiting to buy a CPU I will effectivly lower the overall cost... that is pretty much just law in the computer world... the longer its around the cheaper it is to get... that still doesn't address the real issue...

Will a 266FSB CPU work in a 200FSB mobo?

Or vise-versa...

Can a 266FSB mobo use a 200FSB CPU?

Random Nonsense

ok, i THINK you should be able to use it..... but not sure..... i know u can underclock 266 FSB by setting it at 200 FSB a friend of mine had to cos of his PC`100 RAM.... i upped multiplyier for him to stay at 1200 MHZ tho

yes u can use a 266fsb cpu on a 200fsb mobo.......

also, if you are talking about the A7V in your sig then there might be a chance it can have a kt133a chip

kt133a chip = support for 266fsb cpu = no new motherboard

it depends on the rev version of the part

check that out first

Yes, it wll just be underclocked.

Yes, I am doing it right now. see sig.
