View Full Version : Getting my old pci modem to work!
Hey guys/gals,
I've tryed litteraly everything to get this old us robotics model 0637 modem to work.. I've gone through 12+ differnt drivers and all have the same effect..
Click on.. pause.. Click off.. short speaker sound ..
Normaly it would be click on.. short speaker sound.. dial.. connect..
I have no idea whats goning on, but for some reason its not getting a dial tone or not clicking on properly..
Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
I dont have the $$ to buy a new one at the moment.

Are you getting a dial tone on a phone daisy chained thru the modem?
Is the wall cable going to the port for an external phone or the wall side?
Is the wall outlet active?
In 'My computer...properties" are there any IRQ setting problems.
and finally when I had a USR WinModem it would occasionally screw up and the only way to fix it was to uninstall it and power down everything hooked up to the computer...wait a few minutes power up and reinstall the modem drivers.
I hope this helps. :)

Have you tried the "hammer" trick?
Used to work for my mother: when something needed fixing, after waiting what she considered a reasonable amount of time, she's take a hammer to it and , sure enough, she fixed it!
My step-father hated the "hammer" trick as it would cost him more money.
hehe
no but I've tryed swapping peices.. I have another modem that has a chip outa its 'chip'.. so I used that one for spare parts, and put a new part on the modem I"m trying to get to work.. the old part I replaced was a square of metal with a roll of wire around the middle, however it was scraped and the wire was showing through the insulation..
Dont know how that could have messed it up, but replaced it anyways.. then it didnt do anything.. hehe unsoldered it and turned it around.. they it worked just like it did before.. just not properly though..
I give up, Grandma is sending me a new pci, robotics 56kvoice/fax modem should be here monday or tuseday.. about when I leave for testing.. oh well!
